0:00Tableau 24.
0:013 is nearly coming soon.
0:03Tableau have launched the page where they go through all the features in this video.
0:07We're going to go through it and we're going to try and catch up on
0:09All the latest for Tableau.
0:11As ever, let's get stuck in.
0:12So 24.
0:133 is coming soon.
0:15I'd like to go through this as a rundown of what's available in this release.
0:18I'm in the rather embarrassing situation where I haven't even finished covering the previous lease
0:23The previous release, I've not even scratched the surface, but here we are.
0:26We're gonna try and keep up with it.
0:28I've got a month to get ahead of this, I think.
0:30So
0:31Get subscribed, get involved, and uh we'll try and keep up with the pace that Tableau is cranking stuff out at.
0:38Right, so right from the top, Tableau Cloud Manager.
0:42Now, this is actually quite nice
0:43What this does is it essentially brings a capability that a lot of customers have had with Tableau Server.
0:49With Tableau Server, you had this ability to create multiple sites.
0:53Now a Sight and Tableau server is essentially a walled garden that can't see other walled gardens.
1:01So let's say you've got a finance team that needs to have stuff on Tableau, the same Tableau server as everyone else.
1:06but they can't have this situation where anything in their environment is visible to anyone else.
1:12And they need to create a completely sort of firewalled part of the tablet server that's just for them.
1:18Sites allowed you to do that
1:19You can't share data sources across sites.
1:21You can't share anything across sites.
1:23As far as the sites are concerned, they can't even see some of the other capabilities.
1:27Essentially only an admin can really see
1:30the site and hop hopp between them.
1:32That's sort of the only person really that can do that.
1:34And so it was a nice way of splitting up your server environment across different organizations.
1:39Maybe you have
1:40uh one large organization that owns multiple organizations, but those organizations need to be separate.
1:45Sometimes you get this in retail as well, where things need to be kept separate as well.
1:49So anyway
1:50Tableau Cloud Manager brings this capability to Tableau Cloud but in a different way.
1:54What it allows you to do is have multiple Tableau Cloud instances.
1:58under one roof and managed with one license portal to distribute the licenses to those different Tableau Cloud instances.
2:05So it's the cloud version of that capability we've had in Tableau Server.
2:09So it's a really nice touch.
2:10I think it's a
2:12A really, really good setup, and you can do quite a lot of the things that I think you'd expect to be able to do.
2:17I think it's been well thought through.
2:19So it's really nice to see this here.
2:20I'm looking forward to seeing how that works.
2:23You should have maybe even started getting invites to receive this because essentially the way this works is it's got to roll out first in order for you to be able to manage it once this feature is out.
2:32So uh Tableau Cloud is getting updated over the next few weeks.
2:35You'll probably see some of the features already if you're lucky enough to be in a pod that has this.
2:40I know Canada's had Hyperforce.
2:42uh already rolled out so you'll see that um later when we talk about it but that that is what's um uh this feature is okay next feature is
2:50the Tableau Viz extension.
2:52Now I don't know too much about this.
2:54Let me just make this larger because this is sort of interesting.
2:57So evolve from legacy reports into visual analytics while meeting your users' current needs
3:02Now you can add detailed tables and grid views to dashboard for users who prefer traditional reporting views.
3:07So what this looks like is a bespoke
3:11Just if I just open this in another tab, let's go all the way over here and we just zoom into this a little bit.
3:16Let's just let's just get this full screen.
3:18You can see here that this is essentially one of the new Viz extensions that Tableau have previously announced
3:24That was in 24.
3:252.
3:25What it looks like here is Tableau themselves have built something that's super smart.
3:31This is very similar to the uh tables capability that I've demoed previously from InfoTopics
3:37But it's a little bit lighter, it's not as powerful and it's not as sort of well thought through.
3:41Uh but it comes from the vendor, it looks like, and it feels like it's natively supported.
3:46So this is great because
3:47You know, you've always actually been able to do this kind of stuff in Excel, and this is a huge step forward.
3:53So this is going to be one of those features that actually gets undue attention and lots of people are going to rave about it.
3:59It still doesn't mean I think this is a good look inside of a dashboard.
4:02The the problem with these kinds of charts and the problem with these kind of tables is they kind of encourage people to just have
4:08really large views that take a long time to load and no one ever really assimilates all this information easily.
4:13So what it looks like though is that you're gonna have fine grain controls to be able to visualize within each of these columns
4:19And this this to me is perfect for killing hacks.
4:22Like this this is possible today, kind of.
4:26Maybe I'll do a video of how it's possible today, because it's very nasty.
4:29You can do it with LODs and you can do it with hacks.
4:33Um, but it's not as nice.
4:34You don't get this sort of uh filters you get at the top.
4:37You could sort of implement them as well.
4:39And again, that uses an LED and it's kind of messy, but
4:42Yeah, this is just going to be much nicer out of the box.
4:45So maybe in a separate video I'll show you how I've achieved this with a hack in the past.
4:49Let's go back to our main releases.
4:51So that's Tableau Viz extension, really cool.
4:53We'll hopefully see that soon
4:55Spatial parameters.
4:56So what's going on here?
4:57Bring the full table tableau experience to geospatial data with geospatial support for parameters.
5:03Spatial parameters create rich interactive dashboards so users can ask and answer questions
5:08about geospatial data.
5:09So parameters in the Tableau context are like a data source that's sort of secretly hiding in the background.
5:15It's not actually part of your data source, it's separate.
5:17But you can use it to drive your dashboard and to drive what's going on.
5:20And they can be fed from your data source.
5:23That's one of the features they added now a couple of years ago.
5:25And so they're really handy because you can use them to really drive interaction and almost bake certain presets or certain capabilities or certain focus modes within your dashboard in order to do something else.
5:37This brings that capability to spatial data.
5:40But what I'm interested to understand is what does that really mean?
5:43Because spatial data is quite complex.
5:45For example, if you think about geometries or you think about paths,
5:48They actually consist of multiple data points behind the scenes.
5:51So I don't know enough about this just looking at it to be able to sort of really clearly understand what's cool about this.
5:58Because of course parameters could already drive geospatial items like maps and layers.
6:02So being able to have spatial parameters, I think, means you're going to be able to use spatial objects as parameters inside of the product itself.
6:11So that will be really interesting to see the interface, how you can add them, how you can play with them
6:15Obviously this release is not out yet, so um we can't really go into that, but nonetheless, um that looks good.
6:21Okay, Tableau Microsoft Teams app integration.
6:25Like this is essentially the Slack variant for Microsoft users.
6:29This is about time.
6:30It's good to have native capability of Tableau Pulse, Tableau Cloud, all of that stuff natively inside of Microsoft Team.
6:37This is going to be huge for tons of enterprises.
6:40I know this is a partnership with Microsoft as well, so there's a lot of collaboration that's gone in here.
6:44So to have official support through Microsoft Teams from Tableau is going to be great.
6:49And yeah, you can
6:50I think you pretty much get everything that's currently available in Slack that that would make the most sense.
6:54There might be a bit of lag between them.
6:56You'd think Slack as a sort of first party citizen as part of the Salesforce ecosystem, but nonetheless, um this is going to be good to have.
7:02So yeah, that's going to be great.
7:04All right, display data model for published data sources.
7:07Oh, this is nice.
7:08So when you publish a data source up to Tableau Server, you don't always have the availability to see
7:15the data model behind that published data source.
7:18You see the data source, you see the columns, you see everything in it, but you don't see the model, this actual diagram.
7:23And because of all the improvements to data model, and this makes logical sense
7:27And if you look at what Tableau's been talking about with Tableau Einstein, you're going to need a capability to be able to make these data models visible so people can actually see
7:35the relationships and how these work.
7:37So this is a really nice touch.
7:38It gives a bit a little bit more transparency to data sources.
7:41And if you're using virtual connections
7:43uh and you're all using you know the same virtual connection you want to be able to see the differences between different models using the same tables and they could be subtle differences like the way they're related in order to achieve different analytical results
7:55Um there's so much more to that.
7:57I had just had a conversation with Kirk Monroe about the data model, so go ahead and check that out.
8:02But yeah, this is a this is gonna be a nice touch.
8:04So really cool.
8:05Google Font Support, finally.
8:08Wow.
8:09I suggest this to a Tableau product manager about four or five years ago.
8:15And then they left and the conversation died.
8:18But to me, I couldn't understand like five years ago why this wasn't possible.
8:22We've always had this thing with fonts and it was always difficult.
8:25And Tableau came up with lots of excuses in my honest opinion, because back five years ago fonts were just
8:30Very easily supported.
8:31I mean even if you buy a font file, lots of organizations do this.
8:34They buy a font, they name it after their own brand, and they deploy it across the organization.
8:39It comes pre-installed on the laptop.
8:41For organizations with those fonts, Tableau just wasn't good at supporting them either.
8:45And it wasn't consistent because of the way Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud render visualizations.
8:50The font also needed to be able to be on uh the actual servers and machines and it didn't always come through properly.
8:57And I think that's still going to be an issue for Tableau Server.
9:00What Tableau is saying here is at least for Tableau Cloud, you're going to be able to have Google Font support.
9:06So Tableau Cloud now supports Lato, Monster, Notto, Sans.
9:10uh open sands Oswald Poppins and and Rallaway.
9:13Um so the probably probably the reason it's those specific fonts is because I've actually tested those fonts.
9:19and made sure they work.
9:20Now, as a as a someone who's worked in print design, I did magazine design ages ago.
9:25I'm a bit of a secret geek when it comes to fonts.
9:27Actually have a video on this channel about ligatures
9:30And typography, you can go ahead and check them out.
9:32They're one of my earliest videos on this on this channel, believe it or not, before I turned it into a tablet channel.
9:37These are good fonts.
9:39These are good fonts.
9:40Whoever chose these have good taste
9:42There are a few fonts that are on here.
9:44I can't believe Roboto isn't here.
9:46Roboto is just a standard, really nice, good font.
9:49And there's also a couple of others.
9:50You know, OpenSands is good when it coming when it's coming from Google Font, but there's actually
9:55a couple of better variants of open sand so i would like tableau to not just go with things that were in trend font wise
10:03five years ago.
10:04I'd like to see them uh adding multiple fonts every single month, giving people more options.
10:10And additionally, I'd love to see this on Tableau Public as well.
10:13We don't have Tableau Server.
10:15That makes sense.
10:15Carrot and stick
10:16from Tableau Cloud to Tableau Server.
10:19But come on, Tableau Public is really where these fonts are needed.
10:23Let's be clear here.
10:24So um yeah um
10:26Interesting, good, about time.
10:28We don't get gold star for this because this should have been in the product a long time ago.
10:32But uh here we are anyway.
10:34Mutable email addresses for notifications.
10:37So allow Tableau Cloud users to update their email if they lose access to the inbox to ensure they can still get important notifications from Tableau Cloud.
10:45Available in a weekly release.
10:47coming after the initial availability of 24.
10:503.
10:50So this feels like something they have to roll Tableau Cloud out first, then they can roll out the feature that can do this because I think everyone needs to be updated to a certain type of identity.
10:59That's what this sounds like
11:01So what I don't understand here is what this actually means.
11:05I just read it out and I sounded like I knew what I'm talking about, but I actually have no clue.
11:08So let's just read this again.
11:09Allow Tableau Cloud users to update their email if they lose access to the inbox
11:14to oh okay I get it so if you if you uh let's say oh I have a good example you get married you previously had one type of email inside of your uh organization profile
11:27But Tableau knows that email all along.
11:31You change your profile, but now Tableau needs to, you know, be updated to reflect
11:35that new name and so this I think is suggesting you can go in and change the email so you can start to get your information back.
11:43So
11:43This is interesting because I I still don't know how it works.
11:47I actually have this exact issue with one of my work emails from a long time ago.
11:52with Tableau's own credentials on the Tableau Forum.
11:55Like I'd love this on the Tableau Forums.
11:57I essentially can't get into my main Tableau
12:00profile on the forums because I can't get over this.
12:03I've left that organization.
12:05I can't get into the inbox anymore.
12:08And so I can't ever change away from that email, which means I'm just using a profile with an email that I can never address.
12:13Um so if anything ever happens, I've lost it.
12:15So it's a little bit of a shame it's not on forums.
12:18But this is going to be good for tablet cloud, you know, where people pay money is probably where they're going to prioritize their efforts.
12:22So that's good nonetheless.
12:24All right.
12:24Next one, custom domains.
12:26Um
12:27This is this is kind of nice for Tableau Cloud, honestly.
12:30Tableau Cloud has always had online.
12:32table.
12:33com.
12:33Kind of weird because it's called Tableau Online back in the day.
12:36Then it changed to Tableau Cloud
12:38Uh and so i for me I've even found myself typing cloud.
12:41tableau.
12:42com and going, why doesn't it not work?
12:44Because in my head, that's the name.
12:46So this is gonna be good.
12:48Improve end user experience and reflect your brand with custom domains.
12:51Custom domains can also help admins meet third-party cookie compliance requirements to ensure embedded solutions operated as expected.
12:57So that last point about third-party cookies
13:00In essence, cookies are really, you know, strict about how they operate.
13:06So if you're running an embedded solution and you've got something in Tableau Cloud coming from online.
13:11table.
13:12But your website is I don't know thisbusiness.
13:15com, you're gonna clash when it comes to cookie restrictions because essentially it looks like your content's coming from two different places.
13:22And that throws a lot of issues when it comes to cookies.
13:25With this feature, you'll be able to use a custom domain.
13:28So ultimately, everyone will be able to use uh domain domain.
13:31So you could set up something like
13:33disorganization forward slash tableau for tableau cloud or you could do tableau.
13:38disorganization.
13:39com if that makes sense.
13:40That's that would make the most sense actually.
13:42That's how people have set up server URLs pretty much.
13:45So
13:46That's going to be a good touch.
13:47Accessibility improvements.
13:48This is just a constant thing that Tableau are doing for the for the last now four or five years.
13:52They've been constantly adding to this.
13:54Enable users that use assistive technologies to explore
13:58Navigate and interact with visualizations and dashboards without a mouse with three accessibility improvements.
14:02Okay.
14:03Now users can use the enter key to navigate a viz.
14:06Cool.
14:06We've also improved screen reader announcements and mouse to keyboard transitions.
14:10Mouse to keyboard transitions.
14:11Okay.
14:11I don't know what that last one is.
14:13Master keyboard transition.
14:14I need to research that.
14:16But screen reader announcements are better.
14:18That's a good thing.
14:19That's basically the way a screen reader looks at Tableau and understands it.
14:22You can do stuff to your product to make that a better experience.
14:25Uh and now users can use the enter key to navigate a viz.
14:28So this is the idea of um previously you could use tab to navigate a viz.
14:32Being able to use the enter key, I think it also gives people more options.
14:36uh and it's a little bit more varied so that's good to see okay multi-fact relationships infocenting wow that's that's a really um
14:45Interesting uh name.
14:47InfoSenting.
14:48That's definitely come out of a research lab.
14:50I think you could maybe like call it highlighting, I don't know, like alertic or something like that.
14:56Anyway, receive proactive information in the flow of work without requiring the full understanding of the underlying data model.
15:03That's cool
15:03So Multifactory Relationships Info Centering services guidance and additional information about the reliability between fields in use and those in the data pane.
15:12So what this is essentially doing is it's like um uh like forward warning advice basically, but it's pulling that through and it's essentially letting you know that as you're using something, there's there is a there's a challenge
15:23in the way the data model is set up that might mean that the result you're seeing isn't quite right.
15:27So here we see based on your data model the field marketing is unrelated to inventory.
15:32Are you sure you want to add this filter?
15:34This is not going to stop you doing something, but it's telling you you're about to do something in your visualization where there is no relationship.
15:41So it will cause some sort of um
15:43unintended consequence if you're not doing that intentionally.
15:46So unrelated dimensions show all possible combinations of all values, you might want to take advantage of that for visualization purposes.
15:53So
15:53This is nice for this to be able to sort of come through to you.
15:56And to be honest, uh Tableau need to do this to avoid people building things that you know are potentially incorrect.
16:02All right.
16:03Multiple external identity providers on a site.
16:07So on a single site, this feels like it's in partnership with some of the stuff we've had at the top about domains and some of the stuff we've had about Tableau Cloud Manager
16:15In those instances, what you might want to do, let's say you have an organization, they're spread globally, and all the users in one region use a certain type of single sign-in, and all the users in another region use a different type of single sign-in
16:29Or you've acquired another company and they've used one type of single sign-on and you've moved everyone to one Tableau server.
16:35So now you need to support two different types of um
16:38uh you know uh identity providers so this is essentially what that is so you can have one site and the way identity providers work is they essentially just you know
16:47uh manage your identity and uh someone's always explained this to me uh really really clearly before uh using a passport and ticket analogy in terms of getting on a flight
16:59Where you know getting on the flight is the content you want to look at.
17:01Your passport says this is who you are, your ticket says yes, you should be here, if that makes sense.
17:07So
17:07Um, I can never remember that analogy in this context, but essentially being able to use multiple identity providers is a good touch because it gives organizations more flexibility.
17:16when it comes to using uh information and stuff from different parts of the organization that you know just can't be part of one identity.
17:24So that's quite good.
17:25Okay, nice lots of acronyms here.
17:29HPE Esmeral Data Fabric Brackets MapR Connector.
17:35That's a really honor that's a really bad name
17:37Long story short, a data connector for whatever this is, right?
17:41Connect and analyze the data stored in HPE Esmeral Data Fabric.
17:44Like whoever's come up with that name should really shorten it.
17:48Um map R is probably the uh the name of the service in the brackets, but I don't know.
17:54Anyway, the connectors available by default in the connectors list starting in 24.
17:573.
17:57So you don't even need to do anything.
17:59It's just gonna be there.
18:00uh built into the product.
18:01So that must be a a very specific data source, data connector that Tableau definitely lost deals on and that's why it's default in the product.
18:10So when you install the software, it's just right there and you don't have to sort of um do anything.
18:15Um the reason it's there by default and not just available on something like the Tableau Exchange is probably because when you go through like a tender, sometimes it asks, look
18:23Does this product out of the box come with this support?
18:26And if it's not installed by default, then it can't tick the yes to that question.
18:29So a lot of the connectors you see are there because of that exact reason.
18:33And it does make the software more bloated because you're loading a bunch of drivers and things you don't need.
18:37But at the same time, you know, Tabber just needs to work.
18:40So hey ho, um, we can we can figure that out.
18:42Anyway, key pay authentication for Snowflake.
18:46Yes, this is a really nice capability inside of Snowflake
18:50Um, it's kind of iffy and hard to set up correctly inside of Snowflake.
18:54I know a little bit of Snowflake, I don't know enough about key pair to really sit here and be an authority on it.
18:59But it's good that Tableau is going to be able to support it because if you're using your workbooks and you've recently been part of, you know, the Snowflake push to get everyone on multi-factor authentication.
19:09Uh that's going to be a little bit difficult if you've got extract refreshes that need to be running.
19:13So if you've got a service account, you can put the service account on key pay authentication.
19:17The key pair is essentially generated inside of Snowflake and on your laptop, and then you keep the key and whatever.
19:24And then you're able just to use those two pieces of information here in inside of um
19:29uh snowflake.
19:30So um yeah that's basically it you still enter everything else as you would expect and then you're able to sort of use that.
19:36So maybe I'll do a video on keeper authentication once it's out.
19:40External identity provider for Snowflake.
19:43Okay, cool.
19:44So this is again another Snowflake enhancement.
19:46Um if you've you if you're using Snowflake.
19:50You might have a way of logging into Snowflake that doesn't use Snowflake's native capability.
19:55So this essentially supports that, allows you to integrate that into Tableau.
19:59And so that's a really good pairing.
20:01You can obviously see that Tableau has a lot of
20:03tight integration with Snowflake here and they're kind of rolling these out.
20:06I think as Snowflake are rolling them out.
20:08So um probably lots of people on beaters who've already tried this and you know um like it.
20:14Explore t explore in tableau API.
20:17What?
20:17Explore in Tableau.
20:20Explore in Tableau API.
20:23Okay.
20:24Explore is part of the Tableau API.
20:27That's what it's saying.
20:28Empower your customers to start an analytics session in Tableau with a single click from your data platform.
20:34Tableau creates a new workbook with a data source based on their data.
20:38So, okay, I get this now.
20:39So you know the explore tab, that thing, that's available inside of the Tableau API, basically
20:45So they can instantly begin analysis without needing to connect to data or to redefine their data model.
20:50Okay, cool.
20:51So um power your customers start an analytics session in Tableau with a single click from your data platform tablet crease and you work with a data source based on their data.
21:00Isn't this the is well that description sounds like web authoring.
21:04So I I now get what Explore is, but now that description, this bit, Tablet creates a new workbook.
21:09With a data source based on their data, so they can instantly begin analysis without needing to connect or redefine their data more.
21:15Isn't that just web altering?
21:16I don't know.
21:17This is going to be an interesting one to see once the documentation is out.
21:21We'll have a look and see what it does.
21:23Tableau cloud in the Germany region, this is normally aligned with AWS clusters.
21:28So
21:29If you have a reason to have Tablo Cloud specifically in the country, then this is good.
21:34Tablo Cloud on Hyperforce, so this is one
21:38I've been wondering like what Hyperforce is for some time, and I think I think I know the the the description.
21:43So Salesforce's Hyperforce platform is essentially the thing behind Salesforce, okay?
21:50It allows them to run many of the capabilities they run on top of AWS in essence.
21:56Okay.
21:56Now
21:57In order to align Salesforce with Tableau and specifically, I think Tableau Einstein coming in the future, they needed to do this underlying work to put Tableau Cloud.
22:06on the same platform, on the same infrastructure rather than the current infrastructure it's on inside of AWS.
22:13So because of this, there's uh some changes coming which puts everything under one roof.
22:18Now there is uh quite a bit
22:21That's going to need to happen.
22:23Your admins will need to sort of whitelist certain URLs, certain IP addresses, and those IP addresses previously didn't change that often, but according to documentation for this.
22:32those IP addresses are going to start changing.
22:34So once this is out, we'll take a look at it in the video.
22:37But just be aware that yes, you'll get an email from Tableau saying, hey, look, we're about to move your cloud instance onto Hyperforce.
22:43That in itself should be a very smooth experience.
22:45You shouldn't have to do much, but everything you'll need to do, like whitelisting, you should be doing that ahead of time so you don't have those issues.
22:52If you're on Tableau Cloud, you're not whitelisting some of those domains and IPs from within your organization, you might have some communication issues there.
22:59So be sure to check that out.
23:02Okay, let's go to Tableau Pulse in Microsoft Teams.
23:05Again, this is part of the big Microsoft Teams announcements.
23:08Everything's in Microsoft Teams.
23:10It's literally what we've seen already.
23:12inside of Microsoft Teams.
23:14There might be some slightly differ slightly different sort of implementations that are more specific to Microsoft compared to Slack, but um you know Slack is all about channels.
23:21Microsoft Teams is to me I just
23:24Like Microsoft teams just garbage.
23:26I hate it.
23:27I hate it so much.
23:29But anyway, um Snack is no better by the way.
23:32Like Snack is not perfect, but I just I just hate Microsoft Teams.
23:35It drives me up the wall.
23:36But anyway
23:37Uh it's now getting the same love as Slack.
23:40Now we have a ton of Tableau Pulse announcements.
23:42You can literally see I have a wall of Tableau Pulse.
23:45From here on the top left all the way down to down here where it says GAI.
23:50So let's do a quick fire round of all of these announcements.
23:53So Tableau Pulse Enhance Seasonality Insights.
23:56Cool.
23:57TelePass now more accurately reflects the expected range of metrics, recognises unusual changes in data with seasonality trends.
24:04Nice.
24:04This has already been released August 2024, so this is more just, hey, we've done this already.
24:09Think about it when you see this release.
24:11Cool.
24:11Tableau piles sorting and grouping on mobile.
24:14So on the mobile device, the ability to sort and group different things, that's kind of handy.
24:19So you can sort and group certain metrics.
24:21uh makes it easier to manage especially on that sort of small screen.
24:24I will say Tableau Pass on mobile is essentially like a windowed version of Tableau Pass.
24:29If you actually bring your browser and you make it tiny, you essentially have the exact same experience in your browser
24:34So um the mobile and the you know web experience are just web windows in the same in the same sort of socket.
24:40Tableau pulse swap between sites on mobile.
24:43Okay, so this is cool.
24:43On mobile, if you're Tableau Pulse, you might want to go to different Tableau Cloud instances.
24:48It's funny how they call them sites here because like until this release they weren't sites, right?
24:54Like they were all just Tableau Cloud instances.
24:56So you really should read Tableau Pulse swap between
25:00tableau clouds on mobile, but what it's saying here is oh look switch between different sites so let me just read this to make sure I'm not making that up so early transition between various tableau cloud sites across all your different um
25:12Uh content quickly uh with a site switcher similar to the web experience.
25:16You can view all your available sites and switch to access.
25:18Yeah.
25:18Yeah, they're calling them sites now, but it's fine.
25:21Okay.
25:22Tableau Plus Pulse Global Currency Symbols.
25:25Cool.
25:26So make your Tableau Plus metrics clearer and more personalized by showing the right currency symbol.
25:31That wasn't a feature already.
25:33Um just released in September 2024.
25:35Okay, PAS now supports over 130 different symbols.
25:38It probably only supported dollars before, right?
25:40Super frustrating.
25:42So maybe yeah, that's that that to me should have been out of the box straight away.
25:45But hey, it's here.
25:46That's really good.
25:47Tableau Pulse Change Mobile Time Period.
25:49Okay, cool.
25:50On mobile being able to change the time period, that's a pretty nice touch.
25:54Tableau Pulse Enhanced Ass related metrics.
25:56Okay, cool.
25:57So they've asked.
25:58They've enhanced the uh ask related metric.
26:01So answer questions extending beyond what pulse insights previously detected.
26:06Ask about another metric from the same metric definition.
26:09to better discover relevant insight.
26:11So wait a minute, ask about another metric from the same metric definition to better dis that makes no sense.
26:18Ask about another metric from this
26:21Okay, so if you've got another metric which has the same shared definition, you can ask about it inside of any other metric that shares that definition.
26:30I think that's what I should say.
26:31So what this should really say is.
26:33Ask about a metric that shares the same definition as the current metric.
26:38That's what that really should say, to better discover relevant insights.
26:41I know I'm not a I'm not an English major.
26:44I don't do grabber.
26:45But I think when you're writing this product marketing stuff, it's so important for it to be clear to the audience.
26:50And sometimes I kind of think the product marketing is written to be clear to a marketeer and to be clear to like everyone internally in the organization and not like
26:59um you know your everyday analyst who's like new to the field.
27:02Anyway, it's a tangent.
27:04Tableau pulse manually created goals.
27:07Okay, cool.
27:07So you can set goals, set a goal in the insight exploration page and monitor performance
27:12Against goal across flows, analytics professional can restrict who can create, edit, and delete manual goals associated with the metric definition to ensure only authorized users can make changes.
27:22Interesting.
27:23Okay.
27:24Tableau Pulse Dynamic Sorting and Grouping.
27:27Sort and arrange your metrics, leveraging metadata such as a metric name, data source, and time range.
27:33This feature allows you to organize and evaluate relevant
27:37Related metrics together.
27:38Cool.
27:38So you can essentially sort and group.
27:40Similar to the mobile grouping, you can essentially sort and group things so it's a little bit clearer.
27:44That's nice.
27:45Um, you know, sales group, a call center group.
27:48That's cool.
27:48Giving more kind of CMS control.
27:50They're really sort of fleshing this out.
27:51You can really start to see them doing this.
27:53They must be sort of going through that list of items and knocking them out.
27:57You can put these pass metrics inside of dashboards as well.
28:00This is nice.
28:01Creators can now embed pass metrics using a built-in dashboard object available in both desktop and server.
28:07That's cool.
28:08That's pretty straightforward.
28:09Tableau Pulse popular metrics.
28:12So seeing the popular metrics, three followers, getting a follower count makes total sense.
28:16So
28:16Tabopulse continues to march forward with a ton of nice quality of life improvements.
28:21Some of them already available.
28:22Basically, I think they're getting updates every month if you look at the dates.
28:26We've had something in August, then in September, and the previous release was June, July, August, and July.
28:31So I think July we had a similar update in 24.
28:342.
28:34So yeah, I think they're getting updates monthly.
28:36Stay tuned.
28:38Okay, GAI profile organization.
28:41Organize your tableau public profile.
28:45Seamlessly organize the visits on your Tableau Public Profile page into unique categories using Tableau AI.
28:51Alternatively, op
28:52for manual categorization to have complete control.
28:54So basically you can sort your tablet public profile.
28:57No image of what that looks like, but I'm assuming you can be able to drag things around, create groups, but also you can ask AI to do it for you.
29:04It just feels like another opportunity to talk about AI.
29:06I'd rather do it myself.
29:07I'd rather curate my experience.
29:08If you check out my interview with um Judith Becker, she highlights this very point.
29:13She says, hey, look, I want to be the person in control of how I'm portrayed.
29:18I want to be known for certain things and I don't want to become the person who did that thing if it's not something you want to be known for.
29:24So doing it yourself probably makes a ton of sense.
29:27Exchange on Tableau Public.
29:28Now this is a weird one.
29:29I have a love-hate relationship with Tableau Exchange.
29:33In short, I kind of go back and forth of whether I love it, whether I hate it, bring it to Tabo Public.
29:40I kind of I was kind of hoping I was kind of hoping that wouldn't be the way round it would go.
29:46Don't bring exchange to public.
29:48I was hoping they'd take public to exchange if that makes sense.
29:51Bring the public vibe to Tableau Exchange rather than bringing exchange to Tableau Public.
29:56Anyway, you get my drift.
29:57This is a good thing, I guess.
30:00It's gonna help them create a marketplace around Tableau Public.
30:03It's kind of interesting what this suggests is like look, you know, from Salesforce perspective, you can't have this thing sitting there free, not doing anything for us.
30:11So let's create a marketplace.
30:12Let's let people sell some stuff and we can, you know, skim across the top a little bit.
30:16So that's what they're trying to do.
30:18Pretty straightforward, makes sense.
30:19Hey, it's a business.
30:20Um, let's see how that goes.
30:22I hope it doesn't make that whole experience sort of muddy, and I hope it doesn't change the culture in the community of giving and learning.
30:29Um and you know, not too many people start to go down that route of putting a paywall behind everything when the quality isn't great.
30:36I learned a lot because a lot of what I was looking at was free, a lot of what I was able to download was free, I was able to open a workbook and see how it works.
30:43Um, I know there's, you know, people put a lot of effort into their work and sometimes it goes above the threshold where they want to pay, but you know, in many ways, um, you could say the same about, you know, authors, you could say the same about my videos, an example
30:56And there is always like a quid pro quo, like why are you doing it?
31:00If you're doing it for the money and that's what you want, then fine.
31:02You know, put it in a paywall.
31:03Um, but if that's not what you're doing, but you also want the money side, then it can get a little bit
31:08sort of hard to manage expectations between your audience and people you're making it.
31:12For example, if I just said, hey, all my YouTube videos are now going to be going behind the membership.
31:17I think everyone would be like, wait a minute.
31:19You know what I mean?
31:20So um yeah, I don't do it for that.
31:23I don't don't even get close to anything that's worthwhile there.
31:26So um yeah, this is gonna be an interesting transition.
31:29Let's see.
31:29Let's see what happens.
31:30All right
31:31Bridge support for Taco files.
31:33Wow, limited.
31:34So this is this is a this is such an insider um update
31:39Bridge support for Taco Files.
31:41Okay, what is that?
31:42So Tableau Bridge is a capability that allows your Tableau Cloud environment to connect to data sources inside of your organization's firewall.
31:50It does that by installing a piece of software on a machine inside of the firewall, which can then talk out to Tableau Cloud whenever it needs something.
31:58So essentially what happens is hey, Tableau Cloud goes, hey.
32:00I'd like a most up-to-date version of this data source that's inside of this SQL database in your organization.
32:06Tableau Bridge says, yeah, I'll do that.
32:08It goes off, gets the data, and then pushes it to Tableau Cloud and Tableau Gas says, okay, I'm up to date.
32:13You can do that in a pool and you can do that in some other ways.
32:15Now, a taco file is an extension file.
32:19So no, that's not right.
32:20It's a T-Rex file.
32:21So what is a tack of file?
32:22Let me read the description.
32:23A subset of connectors in tablet exchange are now enabled for tablet cloud through the bridge, making your data more accessible and easier for you to connect to.
32:31I don't know if a taco file is a can is a data connector file.
32:35Supported connectors include JDBC.
32:38Okay, yes, these are all data connectors.
32:40So they're all to do with specific types of data connections.
32:43So Taco is for data connections, T Rex is for extensions.
32:47Okay.
32:48So that's um that's good to know.
32:50Okay.
32:51Bridge support for embedded flat files.
32:53Oh, that's interesting.
32:54So
32:54If you have an embedded flat file inside of a workbook and you publish it up, Tableau Bridge goes, uh uh I can't do anything about that.
32:59So what this is saying is for Tableau Bridge on Windows, embed flat files into your Tableau Workbook directly and receive greater access to file-based sources.
33:07Save time refreshing embedded Excel, CSV, PDFs, and spatial files.
33:11That's going to be interesting because you know people people put files everywhere.
33:15So
33:16I think I'd want to see that in practice to really see how well it works.
33:19But um if it's using a universal naming convention and it's on a more open public share drive that you know exists within the organization, then
33:27If you use a fully qualified domain, FQD, then you'll be able to point to that server because it will always be running.
33:34It's just a sort of a storage server essentially.
33:36And then you can connect to that CSV and make it work.
33:39So that's a good touch.
33:41Bridge performance and monitoring improvements.
33:44Um this is interesting.
33:46So they've obviously done a lot of work on Tableau Bridge in this release.
33:49I think they're really sort of getting the memo on what's going on.
33:52Analyze data faster and with more trust in Tableau Bridge, live queries and embedded extracts are significantly faster.
33:57So they've optimized it essentially on both Windows and Linux.
34:00Okay.
34:01Um yeah, optimizations, always good.
34:03Activity log enhancements.
34:05So this is the information you get about what's going on in your Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server instance.
34:10Here you can monitor extract fishes in real monitor extract refreshers in real time to meet data refreshness requirements.
34:17Ensure data is up to date and quickly troubleshoot problems with the breakdown job event type.
34:22So
34:24Okay, so there's a background job event type that lets you look at specific things.
34:28Okay.
34:30Okay, so basically this is like um activity log is a capability that you have to have if you have advanced management.
34:37Advanced management gives you
34:38More control of Tableau Cloud and Tableau Server.
34:41It does different things on those two environments.
34:43As part of that update, activity log
34:46Well now has the ability to show you what's running in the background at this moment in time.
34:50That's essentially what this is saying.
34:52And one of those is extract refreshes because they're always running in the background.
34:56Cool.
34:56SAP HANA authentication improvements, um, again, authentication improvements, optimizations, maintain folder structure when mapping data with accelerators.
35:06Wait a what?
35:07Maintain folder structure when mapping data with accelerators.
35:12Okay, okay, I get it.
35:13So this is
35:14It's kind of confusing because they've got a map here.
35:16But anyway, let's let's try and break this down.
35:19Let me read it first and I'll break it down.
35:20Analysts can easily get started with tablet dashboard using accelerator and maintain field structure and categorization
35:26Now this is a really bad update because the word mapping implies that there's something to do with maps.
35:32And so they've gone and got a map.
35:34It's got nothing to do with map.
35:35Maybe the person who created this image thought it was about mapping and has created like a map.
35:39But what it is is when you have an accelerator and you open it, what you have to do is you have to tell it that it it was looking for this data source and your data source looks like this.
35:49That process when you say this field equals that field is mapping.
35:53That's what it means for accelerators.
35:55So this is suggesting that you can maintain the folder structures that exist within the data source
36:01when you do the mapping because previously that wasn't being maintained.
36:05So that's what I think that is.
36:06And we can see the folders here on the left, but it's also confusing there's a map on the right.
36:10I think that's just a little bit mis misleading.
36:12But anyway, we'll we'll we'll ignore that.
36:14Okay
36:15Cool.
36:16Migrate embedded OAuth credentials.
36:18When migrating from Tableau server to Tableau Cloud, admins need to be able to migrate OAuth credentials embedded in data sources and workbooks programmatically and at scale.
36:27Fine.
36:27A new REST API allows you to do that.
36:29This feels like the Migration SDK improvement.
36:32So they've added this to the Migration SDK so you can move everything to your Tableau Cloud sites or between Tableau Cloud sites nicely.
36:39Ein Sanco-pilot for Tableau web wait what?
36:43Why is this last?
36:45This is like buried.
36:48That's a really random.
36:50That is a really random order.
36:52Like if you've if you've been to like Dreamforce or anything, uh this should really be Tableau Agents, by the way, yeah.
36:57Let's get this sorted, guys.
36:58Come on.
36:59Um simplify the analytics process with help of a trusted AI assistant.
37:03Transform natural language prompts into visualizations, formulate calculations to enhance your analysis and get suggested questions based on your data
37:11Einstein Copilot for Table will work with you so you can move freely between manual uh drag and drop actions and formulas to edit and communication requests with Einstein.
37:20Okay, cool.
37:21So
37:21Uh yeah, pretty straightforward.
37:23I'm Sanko Paolo for Talbot Web.
37:24I've actually literally just done a video on this, which I released before this video, so you should be able to already watch it.
37:30Um
37:31Wait a minute.
37:32Wait a minute.
37:33Wait a minute.
37:33Wait a minute.
37:34Wait a minute.
37:35This is 24.
37:363.
37:37So what am I not understanding correctly?
37:39Because Unsign Copilot was in 24.
37:412.
37:42So let me read this again
37:45Simplify the analytics process with the help of trusted.
37:48Transform natural language prompts into visualizations.
37:51Okay, that's copilot
37:53Formula calculations enhance your analysis and get suggested questions.
37:57Oh sorry.
38:00Einstein Copilot came out
38:02after 24.
38:042 was announced.
38:05So it kind of came out in between 24.
38:072 and 24.
38:083, which is why it's in here.
38:09It's like an ability for them to tell you it's in this release.
38:13Now
38:14I swear this was already in the current list.
38:18If I go to 24.
38:192, you see it's right here.
38:21And here they have the prep example, but they have unsigned copilot for web authoring here.
38:29And it's an assistant blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
38:32Should actually be an agent.
38:33They didn't do control find replace on this page.
38:36But I don't get this.
38:38What is this?
38:39It's the same header
38:41Simplify the Anuspress with the help of a tresser.
38:44Transform natural language prompts division.
38:46Okay, that's what it does.
38:47Ann Poverty will work with you so you can move freely between manual drag and drop actions.
38:53and formula editing to communicating requests within Einstein.
39:03Okay.
39:04I don't understand what's new here.
39:06I don't know.
39:07If you know, let me know in the comments.
39:09Thank you.
39:10That's it.
39:10We've been running for 40 minutes exactly.
39:12We've gone through this whole entire page.
39:15If you want to, you can filter these by the different products.
39:17It's not always 100%.
39:19That's why I go through it in chronological order.
39:22Thanks for watching this video.
39:23I'm gonna cut it short here.
39:24We're gonna leave it there.
39:25I'm not gonna do any opinion piece on this
39:28I'll do that as stuff comes out with release.
39:30There is definitely a lot to talk about in terms of what's going on here.
39:33I'll do that with Ravi.
39:34We do that probably once every two weeks.
39:37So be sure to check that out.
39:38But nonetheless
39:40I think 24.
39:413 is going to close out the year in a quite a strong place.
39:43I'm really interested in what happens with 25.
39:461, 25.
39:472.
39:48Those are going to be really important releases now that we know about Tableau and Einstein
39:52I don't think we'll see Tablet Einstein anytime early next year.
39:55If anything, my hunch, my hunch is that tablet Einstein won't drop until 25.
40:00Three, that's my guess.
40:02We'll see.
40:03Um, but nonetheless, here's what we have.
40:06As ever, thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next one.
