Claude is Anthropic’s AI assistant, and the first AI I’d genuinely call a capable data analyst. Point it at a spreadsheet or a whole data model, and it interrogates the files, writes and runs real working code, and explains its workings. I’ve validated its answers in Tableau, and it even caught an anomaly I’d have missed. The challenge is, in fact, governance and craft. Governance: decide which company data the agentic features can see before they touch it. Craft: using Claude well means pairing it with deterministic approaches, skills, well-briefed agents, and a proper grasp of agentic coding practice. Used loosely, it will happily improvise; used well, it’s the real deal.
