Where are my usual new release videos?

0:03're doing something really really quick to

0:05the

0:05camera no editing this is going straight to

0:07YouTube as soon as it's done. Lots of

0:09people

0:10have got in touch in comments and chats and

0:12various places to ask hey Tim where are the

0:14videos you normally do on day one of the

0:16release and long story short we don't have

0:18them. Now

0:19this time round with 2021.1 it's a bit of a

0:23tongue twister to say that they didn't do

0:26a beta so normally what happens is at least

0:29a month maybe normally two to three months

0:32before the release we have a beta and the

0:34beta is essentially an opportunity to do

0:36some

0:36testing give some feedback on features you

0:38know highlight any major bugs that might be

0:40sort of existing out there that they haven

0:43't come across. Normally we get that time to

0:45do that and it's normally done through

0:47something that was called the pre-release

0:49program. Unfortunately

0:50this time round that hasn't happened so

0:51this is the first release 2021.1 where that

0:54hasn't

0:55happened now for whatever reason Tableau

0:57decided to change the game on this

0:58particular front

1:00and so that means essentially I got hold of

1:02Tableau for the first time today the same

1:04as all of you and that's okay I don't want

1:06any sort of preferential treatment

1:08whatsoever

1:09I'd love that to always be the case but the

1:11thing is is that it doesn't leave people

1:12with

1:12much time to really get familiar with the

1:14features and actually share those learnings

1:17so you know lots of people today opening

1:19for the first time I'm sure over the

1:20weekend lots

1:21more people beyond just myself will be

1:23sharing videos and content about what's new

1:25and what's

1:26great in Tableau. Now Tableau themselves

1:28have stepped up the effort to be fair over

1:30the

1:30last few years they've also stepped up

1:32their efforts when it comes to videos and

1:34so if

1:34you go to the new release page which I've

1:36got here and it's actually a great place if

1:38you just want something to you know get

1:39that information now you don't want to wait

1:41for

1:41my videos this is a great place to go if

1:43you go to this page it's actually something

1:46that

1:46they've always done so you can always

1:47scroll down and read some of the highlights

1:50from

1:50the release what they consider to be the

1:52most important sort of big feature releases

1:55from

1:55this particular release and they have a

1:57nice summary here at the bottom with the

1:59list of

1:59all the sort of features that are available

2:01now there are also a couple of quirks here

2:03not every feature here made it out today so

2:05things like Tableau Public web authoring

2:08hasn't

2:08actually made it into the final release

2:10just yet so if you'd seen my previous

2:12videos on

2:13the preview and some of the other

2:14information around what was coming soon

2:17then again some

2:18of that has changed and so it's worth just

2:19sort of coming to this page and checking

2:21that

2:22out now the other thing they have done is

2:23they've done some videos so if you click on

2:36the production levels on this as always so

2:38it's great to see Tableau stepping up to

2:40try

2:40and fill that gap so that everyone has

2:42something on day one as well so definitely

2:44go through

2:45it now it's more of a slide walkthrough it

2:47's more of a PowerPoint walkthrough that's

2:49really

2:49the only way you're doing it in 14 minutes

2:51for the whole entire release so it's a

2:53really

2:53really nice sort of summary and sort of

2:55guide as to how it's all working so

2:57definitely go

2:58check it out now one last thing if you go

3:01down and scroll down a little bit you'll

3:03see

3:10in there so there's actually this nice

3:19just wanted

3:20to do a really really quick video to sort

3:23of highlight to everyone you know ways they

3:26can find out what's new without waiting for

3:27my videos because I know people are

3:29messaging

3:29people want to just use this weekend to get

3:31stuck in maybe you had plans this weekend

3:34to just enjoy some content Tableau have

3:36some great content so go check it out if

3:38you're

3:38at Tableau and you're still thinking

3:40whether it was right or not to do the beta

3:43program

3:43highly encourage you to rethink that from

3:45an enterprise perspective it's a real down

3:48er

3:48because we normally want two months at

3:50least to play around with the new version

3:52so by

3:53having no access to the beta not really

3:55giving people an opportunity to test and

3:57play especially

3:58your integration and technology partners

4:00what essentially means is that we can't

4:02give our

4:02customers advice on whether it's a good

4:05release or not so if you can all if you can

4:08at all

4:08change that perspective if there's any way

4:10we can convince you that it's actually a

4:12good

4:12idea to let us you know try these things in

4:14advance so we can know how they work we

4:16know

4:17how they integrate and we can provide that

4:19feedback to our customers then it's really

4:21really valuable especially with things like

4:23Tableau Online where the customer doesn't

4:25have a choice on what version they are they

4:27get upgraded automatically so being able to

4:29tell them about what's coming is a really

4:32really important feature but apart from

4:34that

4:34this is a really great sort of release go

4:36check it out go see what Tableau have and

4:39the Dot1 release is always a quieter

4:40release so don't be too worried that there

4:42's not like

4:43this blockbuster set of features the Dot1

4:45is normally a quiet release anyway so I'm

4:48sort of raising expectations for Dot2 and

4:51Dot3 as well in that sort of expectation

4:53but

4:54that's pretty much it I'm back to editing

4:56videos we've got two videos on the way and

4:58hopefully over the weekend we'll do a few
