0:00Hey it's Tim here, in today's video I'm
0:01going to be covering a recent change to the
0:02tablet online setup
0:04where it requires you to know your site URI
0:06when you're logging in. Now this didn't
0:08used to happen
0:09before, previously all you had to do is
0:11type your email into the login page and
0:13then see a list of
0:14tablet online sites that you had access to.
0:16If you only had one it would skip you right
0:18through and
0:18give you the username and password and you
0:21just log in as normal. Now this site URI,
0:23most people
0:23won't know what this is, I can just very
0:25quickly show you exactly what it is. The
0:27site URI is this
0:29part of the URL that I'm highlighting, this
0:31little bit here. This is actually a unique
0:33identifier for
0:34your tablet online site. In Tableau server
0:36terms think of this as the site URL,
0:38essentially the URL
0:40that denotes the site that you're on. But
0:42for tablet online, because each online
0:44instance is its own
0:45site, you just essentially get this little
0:48sort of URL to parlent. That's why it says
0:51site here
0:52just before. So essentially not many people
0:55actually know what this part of the URL is
0:58for
0:59them. So I'm going to show you how to find
1:01that very very quickly in this video. You
1:03can see here
1:03I have a tab open and it's got the exact
1:05email that actually was sent to me when I
1:07registered
1:08my tablet online site and in this case I've
1:10invited myself so that I can see what the
1:13email looks like.
1:14This is back from 2020 and you can see that
1:17the literal SERP time I did is I went into
1:19Google and
1:20I typed in onlinemail.tableau.com space
1:23invited and if you do that, I'll just do
1:25that again,
1:26you'll see that I have three invites. It
1:28finds just the invite because of that URL
1:31is used
1:31specifically for invites and then the
1:33header has a term invited three times. So
1:36those are the only
1:37three emails in my whole entire history of
1:39using Tableau and it's actually pretty
1:41consistent. If I
1:42go back to this site you can see all the
1:44other sites that I've successfully been
1:45invited to and
1:46I've been added onto as well. So two
1:48different emails same search criteria it
1:50narrows it right
1:50down. That's not the end of it though
1:52because when you get to this page you'll
1:54see that this
1:55is essentially the name of the site but to
1:57turn this into a URI you've got to remove
1:59all the
2:00hyphens because essentially the site URL is
2:02all lowercase and doesn't have any hyphens.
2:05So you can
2:05copy that go to the page that we were on
2:08here and paste it in and then just go
2:11through and
2:12religiously remove any hyphens. The first
2:15time I did this I actually didn't remove
2:17the capitalizations
2:18I just put it all in hit continue and it
2:20figured it out and it sent me through to
2:22the password
2:22page anyway. I logged in and then it took
2:25me to the two-factor authentication page
2:28and you can see
2:28everything is working swimmingly. So I'm
2:30now through I can put my two-factor details
2:32in and
2:32we're happy days. So that is sort of one
2:35approach to take and that is absolutely the
2:38way to do it.
2:39Now I'm a bit of an automation geek and I
2:41like to make sure that these things
2:44especially if you look
2:44at this URL look I'm not going to remember
2:46what that is every single time in this case
2:48it's really
2:48really long. The organization might have
2:50something much simpler to remember in which
2:52case perfect
2:53but if your organization doesn't have
2:54something easy to remember I recommend you
2:56look into text
2:57replacement or text expansion as a way of
3:00remembering those things without having
3:03sort
3:03of tedious things to type on the keyboard.
3:05Let me show you what text expansion does in
3:07my case.
3:08So the text replacement can do exactly the
3:10same thing. I have this area here in Alfred
3:13. Alfred is
3:13a tool that I won't go too much into but it
3:15essentially has a feature set that allows
3:17you to
3:18type a keyword and it will automatically
3:20expand the text to fill the snippet that
3:23you've given it.
3:23So here if I type in t-o-t-t dev it will
3:25give me the snippet which is my tablet
3:28online site.
3:29To stands for tablet online everything
3:31under this tablet online moniker will start
3:34with to.
3:34TT dev is the site that I'm on tabletim dev
3:36and that is it that's all it's going to do.
3:39So
3:39if we just go back and we let's go back to
3:41my incognito session let's cancel this let
3:44's
3:45completely go back and just go to online.
3:47tableau.com let's assume that it didn't
3:49remember this
3:50whatsoever and we start again from scratch
3:52oh it obviously knows my password so it's
3:54it's being
3:55it knows it knows that I've already done
3:57this so this is rather frustrating let me
4:00close
4:00incognito mode again and open it that
4:03should have the effect of kicking
4:05everything out and giving me
4:07back into this particular place and look
4:09you can see here I'm actually using text
4:10expansion to say
4:11look type in my email automatically paste
4:15the full email in for me and here I'm just
4:18going to type in
4:18t-o-t-t dev t-o-t-t dev and as soon as I
4:21type that it automatically paste in the
4:23correct thing for me
4:25and I don't have to remember this anymore
4:26now in this particular case oh I haven't
4:29actually
4:29copied the correct uri so we should
4:32actually grab that and go back in here and
4:35just adjust this if
4:37we just go back in here we can just paste
4:39the exact thing we need hit save now that's
4:41going to
4:41be correct every time I type it so let's
4:44just type that again t-o-t-t dev and now
4:46that's automatically
4:48getting done so I never have to remember it
4:50again t-o-t-t dev is all I have to remember
4:52and I can add other tabla online sites to
4:55the end of that to till to gstc these are
4:57all other
4:58online sites that I have access to to inviz
5:03all these things can just be added to that
5:03list so
5:03I don't have to remember now this is
5:05actually a good change because what you
5:07could have done in
5:08the past is you could have just taken
5:09anyone's email in the world put it into
5:11table online and
5:12tabla would learn with table online would
5:15sort of validate that user had access to
5:17table online
5:18and then what you could do from there is
5:20you could do a little bit of social
5:21engineering to find out
5:22what site they were using and then you
5:24could do a little bit more social
5:26engineering to spoof that
5:28person and let them know that hey you need
5:30to reset your password do it over here send
5:32them
5:32an email that looks very official looks
5:34like the table online email and but then
5:36obviously you've
5:37got their details and then you can go in
5:39and do a bunch of other things now two
5:41changes have been
5:42made you can now do two-factor
5:43authentication it's a requirement for table
5:45online as of february so
5:47that should no longer be an issue and
5:49secondly you have to do this so that's
5:51pretty much it for this
5:52video thanks for watching and if you found
5:53this video useful share with someone who
5:55might find
5:55it useful as well we're at 25 000
5:58subscribers we're on a strong march to 50
6:00so i'd really
6:01appreciate your help to try and get to that
6:03number most people who watch this video
6:05aren't actually
6:05subscribed which is a amazing statistic
6:07that there's so many more people watching
6:09than those
6:10who are subscribed but nonetheless if we
6:12can grow that family that would be
6:13absolutely great
6:14thanks for watching and i'll catch you in
6:22the next video
