0:00Hey it's Tim here. Have you ever wondered
0:01what an Omnibox is in Tableau? Well to find
0:05out, as ever,
0:06let's get stuck in. So here we are in Table
0:08au cloud. The Omnibox is quite simple, it's
0:11this
0:11little search area up here. When you click
0:13into the search box, the Omnibox is
0:15essentially this
0:16interface that pops up. So as I start to
0:19search for a data set or anything, it
0:21starts to contextualize
0:23my search and immediately shows me some
0:25things that I've, you know, recently
0:27accessed. So if I,
0:28for example, go to this top sales flow, I
0:30click on it and you'll see that it takes me
0:32directly there.
0:33Then if I go back in here and I start
0:36typing sales flow and I hit enter, it will
0:39actually go to the
0:40search area and it won't find anything in
0:41this particular case because nothing is
0:43called sales
0:43flow. But if I go back to my home page and
0:45now I type in sales, you can see it
0:47actually has a
0:48sales flow search that I previously did. So
0:50the Omnibox does a couple of things. It
0:52makes searching
0:53a lot easier and it remembers previous
0:55searches. What's the big deal though? Well
0:58in 23.2 they've
0:59added this to the connect dialog phase. So
1:02essentially when you go to set up a new
1:04workbook,
1:04let's go ahead and do that, you'll get this
1:07little pop-up and this also happens in
1:09desktop.
1:09When you get this dialog you'll see this
1:11interface pop up and when we click into the
1:13search data field
1:14the Omnibox should appear. Now I'm not
1:16getting exactly the same behavior as I do
1:18get in the
1:19Omnibox. Maybe there's a little bit of a
1:21rollout and just some sort of phased
1:23deployment but
1:23nonetheless if I go ahead and type in sales
1:26person in this case and then enter, you'll
1:29see the
1:29Omnibox actually behaves exactly the same
1:32way as it does on Tableau search pages. So
1:34here we go,
1:35we can go ahead and select this and we can
1:37say okay yeah this is the one we're
1:38actually interested
1:39in. We double click it and once we've found
1:41what we found it immediately connects to it
1:43here in
1:44Tableau. You can just see that it's
1:45connected there. Let's just make sure this
1:47fits screen
1:48and yeah we can actually just start using
1:50this and visualizing the data that we would
1:52otherwise
1:52use. So that's pretty much it that is the
1:54Omnibox. It's new in 23.2 that it's
1:56actually part of the
1:57Connect window dialog so whenever you go to
1:59connect to a new data source and you start
2:02typing
2:03into this search area here this Omnibox is
2:05the new experience. The nice thing about it
2:07is it also has
2:08filters, it also allows you to filter by
2:10certified data sets and you can obviously
2:12give it some more
2:13context for example whether you're looking
2:15at data sources, virtual connections,
2:17databases and tables
2:19as well. So that's really nice to have.
2:20That's pretty much it for this video.
2:22Thanks for watching
2:22and I'll see you in the next one.
