0:14Okay.
0:18Let's see, let's see
0:23There's about twenty-two seconds of lag, which is good to see
0:33We're gonna have to wait a while because um I think I need to set up some um system audio
0:45items let me let me do that whilst everything's getting set up um and I need to mute myself so I stop hearing myself here hold on there we go
0:55Yeah, we muted on that one.
0:57We muted on that one.
0:59Um, yeah, if you're in the stream, um, can you let me know if you can hear me okay?
1:05Um, I think everything sounds fine, but I don't really know until someone tells me that it's it's awful, so let me know.
1:15Um hi Taha from Iraq.
1:18Welcome.
1:18You're the first chat that's come through my um come through my feed.
1:22I'm now just trying to figure out where did I put
1:25the chat responses on my main screen.
1:28That's actually the bigger problem here.
1:30So um Apex Smart, thank you.
1:34Uh hello from Nigeria.
1:35Amazing.
1:38Excellent.
1:40Dave, thank you for confirming the audio is good on LinkedIn.
1:43Thank you so much.
1:43Um this is good.
1:45Right.
1:45So the only thing I now need to know, uh figure out how to do I should have done this before coming up online is um
1:53How do I see the chat in my window without canceling the stream?
1:58This is a big dilemma now.
2:01Um
2:03What did I do last time?
2:06Nope, that's just a face of me.
2:08We don't want that.
2:09We want this one.
2:11Get to see some behind-the-scenes uh items here.
2:15I can show a chat from the very last stream.
2:18That was kind of funny.
2:20It's funny that I could see that from I don't know when that was, but that was the last one.
2:24Um
2:26For for context, when we get streaming, this is sort of what it'll be like.
2:30So I'll I'll set my um my browser to be um sort of large large screen.
2:36I think we'll take it full screen.
2:38Or I might just leave it in this so that
2:39it's abundantly clear it's on Salesforce Plus and I don't get into trouble.
2:42Um but um this comment dilemma is going to bug me all session.
2:50So let me do this.
2:51Let's go back to this face
2:53And let's minimize this.
2:56Just make sure that I've not hidden it somewhere that is abundantly obvious and I just can't see it.
3:01So I can see the stream.
3:04I can see that over there and interesting.
3:14Ecome live overlays share overlays window
3:25T where is the common options?
3:31This is really strange.
3:41Okay, we're good, we're good.
3:44Ah, here we go.
3:46Found it.
3:47Right, okay, we're good, we're good, we're good.
3:50Perfect.
3:51Okay, I'm panic over.
3:52I'm not gonna worry too much about that.
3:55We'll put this back on.
3:56Um
3:57So uh before we get started, what I'm gonna do very quickly is just check that um you can hear this audio coming from this stream.
4:05Okay.
4:05So at the moment it's muted, but if I do this.
4:08I'm excited to be joined by T
4:10Tableau Visionary Hall of Fame member Anya Ahern, the Director of Data Visualization and Democratization at Blue Shield of California, and Blue Shield's VP of Data and
4:19Analytics Dohair Carew.
4:20Welcome.
4:21Thank you so much.
4:23Happy TC Week.
4:24Yeah.
4:25All right.
4:25We got some hard hitting questions here.
4:27Anya, we're gonna start off with you.
4:28Okay.
4:29What did
4:31I'm gonna turn the volume down on some of this.
4:34I don't know if you can hear us sort of talking each over each other, if it's too loud, if it's too quiet.
4:39Um let me know what you think.
4:43in data.
4:43We just did a talk on the Hi Francois.
4:48Great to see you back stories of how Blue Shield is able to build a healthcare system worthy of our friends and family and really
4:55drive into insights about where we're not necessarily meeting that need so we can do better.
5:00Also to help us unlock insights into things like reducing cost and providing
5:05I'm gonna mute it.
5:06I'm pretty certain that once the stream gets going we can kinda get a better balance of this.
5:11What is bugging me slightly is that I'm hearing something slightly different.
5:14So I think um I'll have to sort of play around with the levels once we get there, so uh
5:19That's what we'll have to do.
5:20Live streaming is one of these things where you think you know what you're doing every single time, you think you have a plan, everything seems sort of well planned out, and then you log in and then something doesn't work and then
5:30And you just basically keep uh clicking around until you remember all the options.
5:35I don't I'm not I'm not a Twitch streamer.
5:37I I think Twitch streamers have this down to a T, so um they're a lot better at this than I am.
5:42But
5:43Um Tableau Conference Keynotes.
5:45Slightly strange that it's on the second day.
5:48Um the second day generally means
5:50the conference has already had some sessions.
5:52I think quite a few sessions were on Monday.
5:54So if you're there in person, you've probably seen a ton of these already.
5:57So that's something um to factor in.
6:00That also means some of the features that you'd normally see first on devs on stage or during the keynote, things being mentioned, have kind of already started to come out.
6:07A few of those have already sort of been out in the wild.
6:10I was playing around with a with a few of them myself.
6:12So
6:13To try and not spoil the keynote.
6:15I won't touch on those until afterwards, but there are some incredible features across the gamut in terms of um capabilities that I think
6:22you know, dashboard developers and report builders have been asking for, but also Tableau pushing forward with things like Tableau Pulse, Tableau Public.
6:29And so we'll get to see some of that play out throughout the course of the keynote today.
6:34Um the keynote is a keynote followed by devs on stage.
6:38So that is uh sort of the revised format.
6:41It's actually how it used to be, um, as it were, but in the last two years they've gone back to
6:45that format in previous years they've had separate devs on stage so it was a little bit of a longer session but I think it's nicer and more punchy to have it as just one session so you have the keynote then immediately sort of the headline feature so that's super important.
6:57Um Apple Apple Silicon Native, yes, Francois.
7:00I was actually posting that uh this morning um on um
7:06on uh what is it LinkedIn uh that is that is a huge thing for me because um I keep on having to switch over to my Windows laptop for things.
7:13uh that I'm just not quite confident about in App Silicon.
7:16But yes, um we'll see about spellcheck.
7:21Uh spellcheck strikes me as like one of those things like copy and paste where, you know, I don't know if you remember the iPhone didn't have copy and paste until
7:27I think it was version three or something silly.
7:30It took a while for for them to kind of get that in um into their OS.
7:34So yeah, we're gonna hopefully see more of that.
7:36Um
7:37The pre-talk on conference is also quite interesting.
7:40I think we've got Anya here.
7:42I missed the introduction of this gentleman.
7:44Um, I know Ed through LinkedIn.
7:46Ed works in the Salesorg, I believe.
7:48So
7:48Um he's a pretty sort of key role in in the Tableau community.
7:52You can kind of see the setup is actually really nice.
7:54I really love the vibrant colours from this year's conference.
7:58They they've done a really good branding exercise to sort of pull back away from Salesforce identity and sort of go back towards Tableau and give it more of
8:05unique star so I for one appreciate that and uh yeah um I don't know what it's like if if you're there.
8:11I I assume if you're there you're not watching the stream so if you're actually in San Diego and
8:15you're watching the stream, let me know what you you think of the whole setup of the the the conference.
8:21It'd be really good to to find out.
8:22I would go over to my other screen and show you that but
8:25I'm not gonna risk um A logging into LinkedIn B logging out of something and C just uh ruining the flesh, so hey
8:33Um yeah, a big big uh big hello, lots of lots of things coming in through the chat.
8:38So uh Tamar is uh saying hi from Atlanta.
8:42Hello, welcome.
8:43Um
8:43We had a few people uh earlier.
8:45So we've got Iraq, we've had Nigeria, um, we have uh Annie's analytics.
8:50If you haven't checked out Annie's channel, uh go ahead and check it out.
8:53She does
8:54It's fantastic content for people who are just getting started in the industry, but are also working their way through their careers, making decisions about that.
9:01And she makes a ton of great content about how to actually approach that kind of
9:05uh decision making day today.
9:06So it's a really, really good way of doing that.
9:08And she's using shorts, which I still cannot get my head around.
9:11So that is a format that I I 100% guarantee you will be the way we watch videos in the future.
9:15And
9:15Annie's already there doing awesome stuff, so um uh Annie's there, which is great.
9:22Um
9:24It's less unnecessary hype from last year.
9:27Oh yeah, good.
9:27Less less unnecessary hype from last year.
9:30That's a good way of putting it, actually.
9:31That's a really good way of sort of sort of balancing it off.
9:35So yeah, they they heard the feedback and um they wanted to be more tableau and less Salesforce.
9:41Yeah.
9:41Um as much as that is the case, I always always try and remind people that like Tableau is a product now and it's
9:47It's Salesforce's product.
9:49There is a part of Tableau which it's very clear they want to move closer towards Salesforce, but then there's another part of Tableau which I think
9:57Um, is very agnostic to the whole data industry.
10:00So if you think of um tools like you know, dreaded Power BI or whatever, like
10:05They're very much wedded to the Microsoft ecosystem.
10:08Whereas I think Tableau does a really good job of being agnostic, whether it's Snowflake or Databricks, whether it's SQL Server or whatever you want.
10:15the list of connectors, the list of integrations always grows, whether it's AWS, Google, cloud, all these integrations are always sort of um being thought through because uh, you know, Tableau's customers are are far and few between.
10:27And so um
10:28It's a super important balance to strike well.
10:31So I I appreciate that for from a tableau perspective.
10:34So yeah.
10:35Okay, how long have we got?
10:36We've got uh four minutes, five minutes.
10:39Um
10:40I'm gonna have to make sure I don't pay attention to my phone as we're doing this.
10:45Um, but yeah, okay.
10:46I'm kind of curious to see what we see today.
10:49I know I know
10:50I I know what to expect, but I don't know what we're gonna get.
10:53That's sort of like a really strange thing to say.
10:55So in terms of expectations, obviously we're gonna get the keynote, the start, um, uh Ryan Ate opening it up, probably have a few of the other, you know, Tableau leadership.
11:04roles we'll have uh the community team also coming up.
11:07I'm sure we'll have um Emacs coming to talk to a customer or something like that.
11:12Those are sort of the standard format elements.
11:15In terms of content, I think we're going to hear a big talk about AI, obviously.
11:19Um, I think we're also gonna hear a big, big sort of um
11:23push to place Tableau firmly in the enterprise and firmly in the direction of where the tide is going.
11:28So I think that's going to be super interesting.
11:30And then
11:31Off the back of all of that, I think the f the final piece we'll get is okay, and here are the features to back it up, here are the capabilities to back it up, and that's where sort of devs on stage kind of
11:40comes to that.
11:41But Tableau Pulse was the big release.
11:43It had its own release.
11:44And so um it's going to be interesting to see sort of if they sort of lean on Tableau Pulse or if they go towards some of the other features
11:51we've heard about like Copilot, um, some of the Viz extensions capabilities that have just launched in 2020.
11:58I never say this right.
11:592024.
12:012, which is just went into beta.
12:03I think it went into beta last week, but it was kind of like a quiet launch ahead of conference.
12:07So uh that's going to be something to uh
12:09to look out for.
12:11Had a few more people say hello.
12:14Let me go back to the chat here.
12:16Hi from the Cayman Islands, JD, nice to see you here.
12:20Absolute pleasure.
12:21Um Francois saying they're adding team support for Tableau Pulse.
12:26That is actually really good because I think Teams is
12:29The incumbent sort of uh enterprise chat software as it were.
12:33Um so much so in the European Union they've had to separate it apart
12:37um because they're deemed to be a little bit uh monopolist.
12:40So anyway, um that's uh really interesting and great addition to see.
12:44Um hello from Kansas, Ryan.
12:46Nice.
12:46Um and hello from Alaska.
12:48I think we're covered
12:50We've covered we haven't had anyone from Asia, but I think the time zone kind of makes it difficult, right?
12:54Because if you're if you're in the Asian time zone, then yeah, probably, you know, you're probably heading to sleep unless you're super keen, in which case let me know.
13:03So that would be that would be great.
13:04Um let me see if I've missed any comments on uh LinkedIn.
13:09They don't seem to be coming in.
13:11So apologies to my LinkedIn crowd.
13:13What I will do to make sure I see your chats is I will uh
13:18uh can i flip this over no i cannot flip that over that's really frustrating okay no worries um so dave your comment um
13:29Was that from LinkedIn or was that from I think it was from YouTube.
13:35I think that's what's happening.
13:36So Kobe and Jerome on LinkedIn.
13:39Nice to see you.
13:40Thanks for joining.
13:41Um you haven't told me where you're from though, so let me know.
13:44Um would appreciate that.
13:46It is Caesar on screen.
13:48Um
13:49I've seen so many people I know on screen that I've sort of just avoided uh sort of going over it.
13:53So um yeah.
13:54Uh has my screen frozen?
13:56That's um that's a question to you.
13:58'Cause it looks like it has frozen on stream, but it hasn't frozen for me
14:02So let's do this.
14:06Let's do this.
14:07Why is it freezing?
14:09Here you go, let's try this.
14:13Okay, that is strange.
14:15That made me concerned a little bit.
14:17So I'm gonna I'm gonna try and I'm gonna try and um watch for that actually because that if that happened that's not good.
14:26So let's put this over here so we can see this.
14:31Okay, perfect
14:35Um Portsmouth, UK.
14:38I love that.
14:39Um I'm new starting out in Tableau.
14:42Any advice?
14:43Oh, advice starting out in Tableau.
14:45You're in a good place.
14:46You're on the right channel.
14:48Um
14:49I'll cover that more towards the end because I think they're about to just transition to the keynote.
14:52So um I'll cover that a little bit later on.
14:54Okay.
14:54Um so I'll come back to that.
15:04So yeah, anyway.
15:06Looks like we're getting started, so I'll um I'll dial this up a little bit.
15:10Change the way we work.
15:11We just pinch and zoom.
15:14Or change the world.
15:16Should I put the captions on or not?
15:18What do you think?
15:19Should I put the captions on?
15:20We need curious thinkers who are driven
15:23to solve challenges.
15:25We need trusted data to fuel our decision making and intelligent
15:32I'll switch it off.
15:33If you want them back on, let me know.
15:34They might be handy.
15:36I appreciate um that's quite useful sometimes when you're watching.
15:40This is the future of analytics.
15:43Now everyone can be a data expert.
15:46Together as one data fam, we'll write a new wave of AI-powered analytics.
15:51Oh, that's AI already.
15:53Ever changing.
15:55Alright, let's get comfortable.
15:58A future that is limitless, but within reach.
16:05We will reach it together
16:14Someone's captions.
16:15So I'll put it up.
16:16Can you customize them?
16:18President and CEO Tableau.
16:20Ryan AT.
16:21You cannot.
16:21But anyway, let's get started.
16:26doing wow what an audience we have here today we have over 9,000 people here unbelievable welcome to San Diego and Tableau Conference I'm thrilled to be here with you today
16:37Today and cannot wait to get this show started.
16:40We have an action-packed day for you.
16:42We have three days in total with over 200 sessions.
16:47Over 130 hands-on training opportunities for you all.
16:51And of course, we have our Tableau Doctor sessions, which I know are very useful across the board for all of you.
16:57And then we also later today have our iron viz.
17:00Who's excited for iron viz?
17:02That's gonna be good.
17:04That is one of those opportunities.
17:05It's kind of like a game show, but it's for data and it's for
17:08For visualization.
17:09It's super exciting.
17:10And so I hope to see you all there.
17:11It's at 4 o'clock today.
17:13Of course, we have a number of amazing customer stories.
17:16I think somewhere around 40.
17:18Across the whole uh conference that you can go learn about and see how people are experiencing success with Tableau.
17:24And then of course I want to call out our sponsors.
17:26We have some great sponsors here today.
17:28We have AWS
17:30We have uh data bricks, of course, on our groundbreaker uh innovator side, and then on the groundbreaker side we also have interworks and wisdom.
17:38So super thrilled about that.
17:40Thank you, of course, for sponsoring us.
17:42And
17:44Yes, round of applause.
17:46We also have Day to Night Out, so we have a great celebration.
17:49This is ultimately a celebration about all of us.
17:52Together.
17:52We are all data people.
17:54We are all here to make an impact on the world with data.
17:56And so we have a celebration tonight, I believe, at 6 PM with some fantastic entertainment.
18:01Right after I'm not sure.
18:02So now is the time that we like to talk a little bit and really thank you and say thank you for being here.
18:09Thank you for being part of this conference.
18:12Thank you to our customers, our community members, our partners, and of course our employees that make all of this come together.
18:20It is not an easy thing to put
18:21this conference together, but we are so grateful that you are here and we are extremely grateful for everything that you do for us across the board.
18:31Now one of the ways I wanted to talk and start this keynote was really to talk about Tableau Public.
18:36And Tableau Public, I don't know who's here maybe heard of Tableau Public, but that's right.
18:41All right, good.
18:43So Tableau Public has over nine and a half million visualizations today.
18:48That's incredible.
18:50And it is one of these places if you've never seen Tableau Public or witnessed it.
18:54You can go to tableaupublic.
18:56com and you can learn about a lot of different things.
18:58Pick your topic, type it in, and you learn so much about really so many things.
19:03It's free.
19:04You can create any visualization using any amount of data that you would like.
19:08And the reason I bring this up is because there are a lot of visualizations that have made an impact on me and, of course, millions of people.
19:16And so I wanted to start today by talking about one of one or four a few of them.
19:21One of them, uh Shantilly, who's one of our Tableau Visionaries, is here somewhere here.
19:26I hear a lot of noise somewhere.
19:28She's here.
19:29Over there, over there, okay, you're right in front of me.
19:34Uh what I like about this visualization is actually, you know, we're in this beautiful city of San Diego and I kind of thought, hey, it's gonna be
19:41you know, sunny every day because it's San Diego.
19:43It was sunny yesterday, it was sunny the day before.
19:45I think it's about to become sunny.
19:47And so I thought, well hey, San Diego might be one of those top five cities in the United States that is sunny.
19:52But what I learned from this amazing visualization
19:55is that it's actually the fifteenth sunniest city.
19:57So pretty impactful, at least for me.
20:00And then of course as we go to another visualization I want to talk about from uh Tapassoret Singh is all about.
20:08That's right.
20:09Look at the love for data.
20:11It's all about ocean health.
20:12And who doesn't care about our oceans, right?
20:14We need to make sure that we're protecting our coastlines and making sure that we are thinking about how to keep them safe for future generations and keep them clean and all of this.
20:23And there's a lot of, you know, plastic particles and things that are in our oceans today.
20:27And I think what I want to call out is this obviously allows us to raise awareness around the fact that
20:33you know, s I think it's 61% of plastic particles made up of bottles and uh wrappers, food wrappers, and of course grocery bags.
20:43From the Asian and North American contents are things that make it into our oceans.
20:47We need to be more aware.
20:48And of course, data and analytics and Tableau Public help us raise awareness.
20:53Another one I wanted to call out from Agata, who's also a Tablo Public Ambassador really talks about child care and the burden of the cost of child care across the United States.
21:06Now this was surprising to me because there's a threshold of 10% that the Department of Health and Human Services says if it's 10% or below it's affordable.
21:15Well, unfortunately from this I learned that in 2022 no county
21:19In the United States was considered affordable.
21:22And that's a bit scary.
21:24I think we're all focused on our little ones, and this is another great way to raise awareness.
21:28Now more curious and fun example might be as well from Ella here, our Tableau Public Author.
21:35And what I like about this is it is a bit more fun, of course, but also it allows us to see hey by gender, maybe by age, you get to see certain things that happen and your new year's resolutions may change.
21:47I was also really glad not to see my New Year's resolutions on here, which is fantastic.
21:52We're not tracking those anymore.
21:54That's not available on Tableau Public.
21:56So why am I talking about Tableau Public?
21:59In addition to the fact that it is amazing, what I want to talk about really is how do you do more?
22:04We're seeing tremendous growth.
22:06And I think there's a great opportunity for you all to do more.
22:09And part of what we do here at Salesforce and at Tableau is we listen.
22:13We listen to our community, we listen to our customers, and I heard a lot that you want to do more.
22:18So we got together and we said, hey, what if we introduce local file saving for Tableau Public?
22:26Very good.
22:28So what is local file saving?
22:30Sounds complicated.
22:31It's not
22:32It's really just like your own personal edition of Tableau.
22:35What this means is you can now have almost a sandbox like capability instead of just creating a visualization and instantly publishing it for everyone to see.
22:43Well now you can play with it, you can have a more sandbox environment.
22:46This is useful.
22:52Or maybe you want to analyze your healthcare data and you don't want anyone to see it.
22:55That's okay.
22:56So, anyways, this is one of the opportunities and it's really a great way for us to give back to our community and to our users because we care so much about you.
23:06So we talked a little bit about that.
23:08I also want to talk about our values because we are a values-led organization.
23:13At Salesforce and Tableau, we are together.
23:16And the thing I just showed you is a really great example of how we want to be able to give back to our community and our users and our customers.
23:23And our first value at Salesforce that we always talk about is trust.
23:27Now, has there ever really been a better time to focus on trust than now?
23:30Well, we've been focused on it for 25 years, and we will always be focused on trust as our number one value.
23:36Because, of course, we are in this new AI revolution and trust is critical, right?
23:41We have to be focused on it.
23:42We are also focused on things like customer success.
23:46Because if you're successful, then we become successful.
23:49Additional to that, we need to be focused on innovating with new products.
23:53And we're going to talk a lot about new products today.
23:55And those products need to be equitable, they need to be sustainable, and they also need to make sure that you feel comfortable and safe using them.
24:03And I call this out because as we rapidly move into this new AI era, an AI revolution, we need to communicate to you that at Salesforce and Tableau, your data is not.
24:15our product.
24:16Okay?
24:17That's a very important point.
24:19Well uh delivered point.
24:20I think it's very sort of purposeful point.
24:22Along the way with context as well.
24:24Thanks to all of you together we've done really well
24:27Yeah, I've been with the company 18 years and along the way I never thought I'd see a $38 billion revenue guidance figure.
24:34That's amazing.
24:35But we owe that to you because you've helped us to get to that point and of course Tableau along the way.
24:42joined Salesforce in 2019 and that has been part of this tremendous experience and growth.
24:47Again, we owe that to you.
24:48Pretty well.
24:49This type of growth and this type of success allows us to be focused on innovation
24:54Allows us to be focused on giving back to the community, and of course allows us to be one of the most ethical companies in the world.
25:01And that is important, especially in our current environment.
25:05Related to that, we also get to focus on this goal.
25:09Really Mark Benioff's goal.
25:10And the thing he talks about a lot, which is that business is and can be the greatest platform for change.
25:16And it's not just about us.
25:17Many of you work for different companies, you may be in a startup, it doesn't matter.
25:22You can implement the 111 model at your company too.
25:26And that's really what we're focused on, which is 1% of our equity and time and our product goes back into the community and also into the companies that surround us.
25:35Whether it's nonprofits, etc.
25:37Now you may be wondering, okay, that's great, I've heard this, but how does it relate to Tableau?
25:42I want to know how it relates to Tableau specifically.
25:45Well, Tableau, the Tableau Foundation, became part of Salesforce.
25:49And as it relates to that, one of the things we're doing, there are many things, one of the things to call out here is our data skills pledge.
25:56We said we will get to 10 million data skills, closing that gap, skilling up people by the time we get to 2027.
26:04We are at 3.
26:053 million currently.
26:06We were at roughly 2 million last year, and we will get to that by doing things like data for kids.
26:12This is a great point because I think this was first brought up by Mark and really sort of tracked it over time.
26:21It's the kind of thing you could have easily just missed and no one would sort of know.
26:24But it's really good to see it here.
26:30For everyone.
26:31And why?
26:32Because data is the foundation of AI.
26:35Without good data, you don't really have great AI.
26:38And I just said before that we are in an AI revolution.
26:43Okay?
26:44What does that mean?
26:45We are all trying to be more productive.
26:47We are all trying to get more done.
26:49We are ultimately all trying to, let's say, reduce expenses, or maybe we're trying to have better outcomes or better customer relationships.
26:56These are all critical things that we are focused on.
26:59And as we go through this, it is important that I frame for you who and sort of where does Tableau fit into the larger Salesforce.
27:08At Salesforce, you may have heard this.
27:11We are a customer 360.
27:13We provide this for our customers.
27:15We are the number one AI CRM company.
27:18What does that mean?
27:19It means that we help our customers regardless of what size you are.
27:24Maybe you're two people in a company, maybe you're 200,000, or maybe you're a nonprofit or an educational institution.
27:32You all still need a single source of truth to understand what is happening in your business, and that is why I want to talk about this for a moment.
27:40Along this path, you also have to understand that there is a way to become enabled with AI.
27:47And what we like to say, and we be believe deeply, is that you need to be focused on five key steps.
27:54To become an AI enterprise.
27:57And you may not be on that journey yet, but our job is to guide you and help you as your trusted advisors.
28:04So what are the five steps?
28:06The five steps really come back to the following, which is one, to become an AI enterprise, you need to build a customer 360.
28:13I just told you what that is.
28:14It's a single source of truth.
28:15You also need to be focused on harmonizing your data, and you can do that with our data cloud.
28:21We'll talk about that later today.
28:23Additional to that, we want you to be collaborating with tools like Slack and Slack AI.
28:29And as we go further, my favorite one, Tableau.
28:32We want to be able to help you deliver AI analytics.
28:35No surprise, right?
28:37You didn't expect to hear that from me.
28:39Now, the final thing we'll talk about on these steps is we want you to deploy trusted AI and our co-pilot.
28:45And we'll talk about really steps two through five today as we go through some parts of the thing.
28:51Okay.
28:52That'll be interesting to see how we're going to do that.
28:57Let's talk about data and analytics.
28:59Who wants to talk about that?
29:02Okay.
29:03That was a really interesting segment.
29:05So this is kind of like if we look at the last three years in the system.
29:08Or maybe more, depending on who you talk to.
29:09That's never.
29:11And I feel like there's been a number of waves of analytics.
29:14Right?
29:15I I feel like the first wave we can call full service, then self-service, you may have heard that word before.
29:20And then personalization or consumerization.
29:23So let's spend a moment or two on these waves.
29:25The first wave is really all about kind of like in the past where you had to say, okay, I need a report, I need a dashboard, I need an insight.
29:34To make a phone call, I have to walk down the hall, I have to send an email, and I send it to someone, that person maybe knows how to code, they have to do some things, access a data warehouse, they generate a report, and that report
29:47May be useful, but it may not be useful.
29:49It actually may be something that I have another question on and I cannot click on it because it's static.
29:54So then I make a phone call, I walk down the hall again, I send an email, and that process as you can imagine
30:00Becomes perhaps a little bit frustrating for the end user.
30:04And so what happened?
30:05Well, along came the second wave.
30:08And in the second wave, of course, was when the self-service analytics revolution started to happen.
30:14Users wanted to click, they wanted to ask questions of their data, they wanted to drag and drop, they wanted to do all these things that ultimately Tableau helped to lift and start this whole revolution.
30:27And they wanted to help everyone see and understand their data.
30:30Tagline of self, uh tab late.
30:33And look, by the way, all of the success that we've had together with you.
30:37Look at all this success over the past 20 years
30:40If I look at this slide, I'd love this to look back to you know 2006.
30:45I see you know Tableau.
30:46com.
30:47I see Pat really.
30:49Chris, Christian are founders of Tableau.
30:52Some of you may know them from the past.
30:54You know, one of the things they talked about a lot was that data and analytics is a creative process, and all of you are creators, and that's exciting.
31:03And look, we are continuing that motion.
31:05Twenty plus years later as part of Salesforce, that is what we are all here to do.
31:10And as I go through this process now, we are focused on delivering, of course, the future of Tableau.
31:15That's what we're gonna talk about today.
31:17The future of Tableau.
31:18How do we go beyond wave song?
31:20And how are you on this journey with us?
31:22Because we need you on this journey.
31:24And what's a better example of this is really when I call out our data fam.
31:34Our data fam truly is at the heart of every single thing we do.
31:39If we do something and we don't check and we don't get feedback, like this conference.
31:44You built this conference for us.
31:46We ask you how to do it and you tell us.
31:48We don't get it always perfect, but we try.
31:51So when I say data fam is at the heart of everything we do, it's because
31:55There's not wrong there.
31:56There's a lot of feedback this year that we can see that we have to do that.
32:06Well, we have 4 million public visualizations, sorry, profiles, 32% year over year on growth.
32:13Visualizations, 9.
32:145 million.
32:15That's 30% growth.
32:17And our user groups.
32:18Do we have any user group members out here?
32:25And look, many great user groups to call out.
32:27I can't get them all listed.
32:28Data Plus Women, Data Pride, many other great ones.
32:34I'm wearing a pin that says data plus tacos, right?
32:37It's pretty great.
32:38So look, we have a lot to be thankful for at Salesforce and Tableau, and we owe a lot to our community.
32:45And this is a celebration
32:47This isn't your usual conference.
32:48This is an opportunity for all of us to come together, to celebrate, to learn, to get inspired, to be together.
32:54And that's why I want to celebrate.
32:57Starting with our visionaries.
32:58So if you're a visionary, I'd love you to stand up and be recognized, please.
33:03Amazing.
33:04Please stand up.
33:06Look at all these great visionaries.
33:08And by the way, don't sit down
33:16And how about our ambassadors?
33:18Stay standing, by the way.
33:20Please stand up.
33:22I guess you're all right in the section, so it's great.
33:25Now these are the people that you need to talk to.
33:28Okay, now let's get our user group leaders.
33:30I know there's some overlap here.
33:31Our user group leaders also, please stand up.
33:40I appreciate that you're standing and I appreciate all that you do.
33:44But I also want to call out stay standing
33:48Did I say stay standing?
33:49I think I did.
33:51So how about our first-time Tableau users or first-time Tableau conference folks or rookies?
33:58Call it rookies, call it future generation.
34:00If you're first this is your first tableau conference, please stand up.
34:09So
34:10Your one job screen.
34:14Your one job at this conference is to meet these people.
34:18Come together.
34:19And that is because this is how you are the future generation of the Data FAM, and these are your experts.
34:25Okay, so thank you very much.
34:27You can all have a seat.
34:29Now that you've gotten the energy going, okay now we're gonna go back to the waves.
34:35Because you know you wanna go back to the waves.
34:36You're in San Diego, we have to go back to waves.
34:38Everything goes to the wave two.
34:39Wave two.
34:40Okay.
34:40So wave two.
34:42There were some side effects in wave two.
34:44And what were those side effects?
34:45Well, we started to think about and hear about that people wanted data on their phone.
34:49They wanted data, of course, embedded in certain places, and they wanted to leverage AI.
34:54Well, welcome wave three.
34:56Has anyone heard of AI?
34:57I'm pretty sure we've talked about AI a little bit.
34:59Okay?
35:00Predictive AI, generative AI, and that's really what we've been focused on.
35:05And Tableau has been delivering on these
35:07innovations for years, right?
35:09We started back in 2003 with mobile cloud.
35:12This is a biz that jock makes it a lot of different things.
35:20That's very unique to what we do at Tableau and Salesforce.
35:24Going on from there, we focus on Tableau Pulse and of course our Einstein 1, an Einstein copilot for Tableau.
35:30You're gonna see a ton of that here today and this week.
35:33And so this is really the future and a lot of what we want to talk about for Wave 3.
35:39But I think it's important to emphasize the following point, which is that
35:44We at Tableau are focused on delivering the future for everyone
35:52Okay, so when you go back and you say, well, the mission is see and understand data for everyone, we want to do that.
35:58And we truly want to be building products for our beloved analysts.
36:01Which many of you are here in the room, but also for users, maybe more like someone like myself, or someone whose job is not to be only involved in data, but to use data to do their job.
36:13So the future of where we're headed is all about data and AI analytics for everyone.
36:18And that is really what we want to be talking to you about today.
36:22And I am very excited and also really eager, to be honest with you, to show you what we've been doing.
36:29We're gonna start with a little bit about
36:32Sort of the current innovations.
36:34And we're going to go through a section of that now.
36:37Then after that, we're going to talk a little bit about what I'll call the future of Tableau.
36:42The future.
36:43Okay?
36:43It's gonna be great, I promise.
36:45And you're all on this journey with us.
36:46We're showing you here because we want to get your input.
36:49That is gonna be super interesting.
36:51And after that, we have something I think you've heard of called Devs on Stage
36:55Anyone heard of that?
36:56Okay.
36:57All right.
36:58It's very exciting.
37:00So with that, I'm going to turn it over to our amazing CMO, Elizabeth Maxon.
37:06E-max.
37:09Thank you, Ryan.
37:12Look at all this data people.
37:13Our data people are here in San Diego.
37:16I could not be more excited
37:18And what I want to do today is dive a little bit deeper into wave three.
37:23So first let's talk about this AI revolution.
37:26There is a huge demand in AI.
37:29Think about tools like ChatGPT that we all have been using for the last year and a half.
37:34I use ChatGPT every day, whether it's helping me generate my workouts to the gym or taking whatever ingredients I have left over in my fridge to come up with a recipe to feed my three kids.
37:46Now, as we start to adopt this type of technology in our personal life, we then expect it in our work life.
37:54We surveyed over 10,000 IT leaders and 81% of them feel that urgency to implement AI across their entire organization.
38:02Why?
38:03But there's a snack.
38:05Fifty-nine percent of those leaders also admit to lacking a data strategy.
38:10You have to have a data strategy in order to be successful with AI.
38:15But it is more than having a data strategy.
38:17You also need to have a data culture.
38:20Now, a data culture is more than just having data as a buzzword.
38:25This is where you're fostering an environment from the bottoms up and the tops down, where everyone across the organization, they understand the value of data.
38:35They know how to interpret it, and then they take action on it.
38:39No one knows that better than all of you.
38:42You are all the ones that are driving incredible data cultures across your entire company.
38:48So much so I'd love to hear from one of you today.
38:51Please join me, Kane Johnson, Director of Data and Analytics from Arvis Bank.
38:55Dane, so good to see you.
38:59Yeah.
39:00We spent some time together at Dream Force last year, and I'm so inspired by all the work that you and your team are driving in Arbisbank.
39:07Like how have you been putting that together with a data culture?
39:10Yeah, thanks.
39:11Um, you know, looking back and just thinking about how we got started, I think we were really fortunate in that um we started with a lot of people who really did want to use DC culture.
39:20Um the problem was it was
39:21the there was just a lot of it.
39:22There's a ton of data.
39:23It all needed to be viewed in the exact same place at the same time and also when they needed it.
39:28It also had to be accurate.
39:30And so, you know, we really wanted, and our goal was really to provide that data and those insights in the most accessible accessible way as we could, in the most effective way possible.
39:38So that's really where we got started on this journey with Tableau.
39:42But we knew that if we needed to build this data culture, you know, we we wanted to move away from this traditional way that we were originally looking at these insights.
39:49and then and then moving forward.
39:51And so what we did was we actually knew we needed one big win.
39:53And so in that win we actually identified one of our reports that we had out there that was extremely valuable, extremely high used, but it was also tremendously manual to put together.
40:03And we did, we went back and looked at we looked at the calculations.
40:06There were 113 different calculations that needed to be updated in this report every single month.
40:11That's insane.
40:14I will say that's also pretty common.
40:16There are just some places where that's how the business is set up, so you can't get away from that.
40:20Um that that was gonna be our big win and we knew that was gonna be where we could really show our value and how we wanted the direction we wanted to go in and how we wanted to go with data.
40:29But we knew we couldn't just turn this one off and then turn on another one.
40:32So we knew we had to we actually gathered several different um users of this report across the across the bank and gathered up a work group and with their insights and what um
40:41the feedback they provided, we identified all the different KPIs that we knew we couldn't live without as we move forward into this new world.
40:48And what with their feedback and um as we developed it, you know, we kept them along with us the whole way.
40:52We also um when we started showcasing the report
40:56We looked at um how to build that that really strong feedback loop.
41:03And really part of that was really to incorporate things in the dashboard like things.
41:07Customized buttons that whenever they would click on the middle would generate an auto draft email that was directed to us.
41:18We also suggested, you know, when you're in the report and you're looking at it, you know, be sure to put those comments in there, tag us.
41:23We get that email as soon as you tag us, and while it's fresh on your mind, we can address it.
41:27it.
41:27And then, you know, moving forward, we wanted to make sure that, you know, it wasn't just we wanted to make sure we we did, we said this, we said, you know, ask for the moon.
41:36Whenever you're asking us, giving us the feedback, ask for the moon.
41:38You know, we also said we couldn't necessarily promise the moon.
41:40But we didn't want anyone leaving anything on the table that could potentially be valuable.
41:44And just to kind of give an example, one of the things that we actually got as feedback was someone had actually suggested just to add branch names to the
41:52reports and you know it kind of surprised us that we hadn't thought about this before because um you know we had always referenced these branches as their number and we never really stopped
42:01Think that you know nobody else in the bank did that.
42:03Everyone else used the names.
42:05And so that one little piece of feedback that honestly was a five-minute update and
42:09in uh Tableau really did open up the accessibility for the report and really got everyone on board with like the value in that initial
42:21um uh that initial use case, but beyond that, we knew that it had to be at scale.
42:26So we knew we actually had another uh uh team at the bank that put together an RVS user group
42:31that we've gathered up all the different Tableau users in the bank and we would talk through problems, challenges, insights.
42:36And we also would periodically bring in leaders of the bank.
42:39And then they would actually pull up their screen and they'd walk through how they were using our reports.
42:44And that was fascinating from both the standpoint of understanding what they found to be valuable and also what they
42:49didn't use it all.
42:50Um and so really going forward and looking ahead, I think we're really excited and I hope I can speak from my team and saying, you know, um these this these advances in AI are really gonna help us, you know, shorten that distance between the question and the answer.
43:03And going forward, I I just I'm really looking forward to what what happens next.
43:06So we're excited.
43:07I mean it sounds like you've made this easy across your entire company.
43:14to get advice along the way.
43:15Like that's amazing.
43:16Who all wants to learn from King?
43:18Yeah.
43:19Another person you need to meet.
43:20Thank you so much, King.
43:25So let's talk about the innovation that Tableau is delivering in this AI revolution.
43:30We are making trusted insights accessible to everyone.
43:34Now you might be asking yourself, how do I know I can trust this?
43:37How do I know that I can trust AI to be compliant and ethical?
43:42Well the good news is this is actually a really great place that Salesforce has helped us scale.
43:48And that's because our technology is built on Salesforce's Einstein Trust Slayer.
43:53This is your most trusted enterprise gateway to generative AI models.
43:58And the best part about it is that your data stays your data.
44:04We are not going to store that in any of our learning language models.
44:07It will not be held in third-party models either.
44:10So hopefully that sets you a little bit at ease.
44:12So now let's talk about these two great products, Tableau Pulse and Einstein Copilot for Tableau.
44:18First, Tableau Pulse.
44:21This is a reimagined experience that provides intelligent, contextual, and personalized insights.
44:29But you also have saying, Emacs, I've heard this before.
44:32You announced the Sed Tableau conference last year.
44:34Yeah.
44:35But now we have so many more new enhancements
44:38In fact, we have over 3,000 customers running on Pulse.
44:41I will try that.
44:42Across 7,000 different sites.
44:45And we have a lot of things that we are announcing here, like ask Q<unk>A, even having goals.
44:50And you're gonna see that in a demo here shortly.
44:52But it's more than that.
44:54We also have Einstein co-pilot for Tableau.
44:57This is what I'm excited about.
44:59You're probably saying yourself, Emacs, another copilot.
45:02Everybody has a copilot.
45:05What makes this different?
45:07Well, I want to take it back to trust.
45:09You heard Ryan say trust is our number one value, and we take that seriously.
45:15And part of having that trust is being transparent.
45:19So what makes our co-pilot different is we are going to tell you what it will do for you and what it won't.
45:26For example, Einstein co-pilot for Tableau can kickstart raw data analysis and help ask questions.
45:34For you to build a visualization.
45:36That's why people really have to do that.
45:37But it's not going to help you with really complex deep exploration tasks.
45:42And even more so, it is not going to replace the skills or the expertise
45:48of everyone in this room.
45:50It's not going to replace all those skills to build those incredible, beautiful visas that you see on Tableau Public.
45:57And this is still in beta, which means we want your feedback.
46:00So sign up because the more we hear from you and we continue to have that deep listening, the more that the tool will work for you.
46:09Now, I know some of you are you're still on wave two maybe.
46:12Maybe you're just starting to have this AI conversation
46:16And that is okay too, because we are true to Tableau, which means we are continuing to invest across the entire platform.
46:25We have so many different features.
46:27on cloud, desktop, and server.
46:31For example, share dimensions.
46:34We also have composable data sources.
46:36Did you know that was actually a top three idea that came from the community
46:41Again, we're listening to you of what you want and we're delivering it in our road.
46:44There's a lot there.
46:45Who loves Viz extensions?
46:47Whoa.
46:49That is
46:50coming 25 on cloud server and desktop.
46:55We have delivered over 140 features across this last year and we're to continue to do so investing in all areas of the business.
47:03Now another way we can help you scale if you are ready to move to the cloud.
47:11Is with Hyperforce.
47:12I'm excited to announce today that Tableau Cloud is now running on Hyperforce
47:19I don't know what Hyperforce is.
47:21So what is Hyperforce?
47:23Again, another place where Salesforce allows us to scale
47:26This gives you the data residency, security, agility, scalability, and the privacy that you need.
47:33And this is powered by AWS.
47:35Okay.
47:36And you can do this at global scale.
47:38We have sixteen pods all around the world, and we're going to deploy in Germany and Singapore later this year.
47:45We're very excited about this.
47:47So what is it?
47:48Now if there's one thing I want you to take away is that we are here to meet you where you are.
47:56Unlike other companies
47:57Tableau is the most open, flexible, composable platform.
48:02Let me talk through what that means.
48:04Let's say you are a Salesforce customer.
48:06We have Data Cloud.
48:08Data Cloud helps you unlock your data and harmonize it from any source.
48:12It gives you opportunity to create that single view of trusted data.
48:17query billions at records of hyperscale and really leverage that deep integration.
48:23But if you're not on Data Cloud, that's okay too.
48:26I don't know if you saw yesterday, but we announced an expanded partnership with Databricks.
48:30It's pretty exciting.
48:31This is your one-click access to Tableau Cloud right in your Databricks council.
48:36This is going to allow you to streamline that data exploration and also has built-in write back and scalability.
48:43I have one more announcement for you.
48:45We are also expanding a partnership with Microsoft.
48:51This.
48:51Now this is gonna give you a place that you can work where you are.
48:57The way that you want to collaborate with Microsoft Teams, you will then have Tableau.
49:02You can also streamline data analysis here too and unlock the value of your data with Microsoft Fabric One Lake.
49:09That is pretty good.
49:10So pretty amazing things that we have for you.
49:13That is such a bizarre partnership, but okay.
49:15Now all of this comes together to feel your success.
49:19In fact, we have thousands of customers that are already successful on Tableau
49:24Take the Texas Rangers.
49:2692% of their employees are running on Tableau.
49:29They're the ones that are making data-driven decisions.
49:32What about the rest of the T.
49:33Or John Lewis Partnership, who has 10,000 partners that are using Tableau.
49:37And F5, that is really showing that time to value and saving 15 hours of IT support every week.
49:45So with Tableau, we are your AI trusted advisor.
49:49You start with data, you move forward tableau, and we are here with you every step of the way.
49:54It's pretty incredible.
49:55Now, are you ready to see all this in action?
49:57Yeah.
49:58Okay, so please join me in welcoming to the stage our director of solutions engineering, Esther.
50:08Hello, Tableau Conference.
50:11I am so excited to share with you today how our current and future innovations are lowering the barrier to data access.
50:18This is still innovation.
50:19This is not visual.
50:24So I'm going to show you today how you can uncover business insights and dig into data deeper and more efficiently than ever before
50:33Long walk.
50:34So with that, let's get started.
50:37Let's say you have an operations team here in the US.
50:41And they are crushing it with Tableau.
50:44Let's see.
50:44Word of their success has flown across the waters to AMIA, where a marketing team wants to use Tableau to uh analyze their website traffic.
50:53Now that's a new business unit.
50:55That's a new use case, so that means a new Tableau Cloud site, right?
50:58And in the old world, that new site would be disconnected
51:03siloed from this one.
51:05Okay.
51:05But not anymore.
51:06Today your Tableau Cloud sites are connected right here in the Tableau Cloud Manager.
51:13Wow.
51:14Thank you
51:15This is a little bit more than a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit
51:17This is a single centralized place for you to administrate your sites, licenses, and users.
51:23Wow
51:23The Tableau Cloud Manager unlocks sharing licenses between multiple sites in different roles and permission structures all tailored to your needs.
51:34So let's go ahead and do that.
51:37We'll give it a pretty original name.
51:38Set of licenses which is kind of how it should have been from the start.
51:43That data needs to stay in the EU.
51:45So we'll put it on our Germany Hyperforce pod.
51:49We want to make sure that Dakota can get up and running without IT and help.
51:53Okay.
51:54And that site is live.
51:56This marketing team can connect to data like Snowflake, Databurks, Salesforce Data Cloud, and CRM.
52:05They have fresh data and plenty of data.
52:11Let's ask our new AI conversational assistant.
52:15Everyone, say hello to Einstein Copilot for Tableau.
52:19There we go.
52:22Right off the bat, Einstein is looking to be as helpful as possible.
52:26Suggesting questions to help me get started, like
52:29What are the total page views per day?
52:31And with a single click, I've got a view that I can iterate and experiment on to find trends in our data.
52:39So we see that we have a tight correlation between page views and subscribers.
52:44But I also want to make sure that this is as relevant as possible.
52:48So I wonder if Einstein can help me out with a filter.
52:55And just like that, we've got one in view.
52:58Okay.
52:58Now, if you know me, I've got always one more question.
53:03And I'm wondering if I can find the average daily subscribers per country.
53:08That's not quite in our data, so I want to see if Einstein can help us out.
53:13Let's see, can you help me write a calculation to show that average?
53:20And Einstein takes a look at the idea.
53:23And kind of excited.
53:25Very good.
53:25This is what I've done.
53:33So definitely saving that calculation.
53:37How do you know what an LED is if you don't know what an LED is?
53:42Love it.
53:46And just like that, Einstein saved me some time.
53:50And with that actual time, I'm gonna go create some more metrics and also some more visualizations to contextualize this website.
53:58Dashboards are awesome, but I am thinking to myself, I need to push beyond the dashboard.
54:04I need to get data in the flow of work.
54:06I need to bring it closer to where people are talking about their data, so in their email, in their Slack, or even on their mobile phone.
54:16Enter Tableau Pulse.
54:18Now, it used to be that Tableau Pulse and this dashboard didn't talk to each other.
54:24But today I can capitalize on work that I've already done, right?
54:29This is what's not enabled.
54:30And I can create a table pulse metric.
54:33This is what I'm expecting to see when it comes out.
54:35I'll continue the trend of being very original and naming it page views.
54:40And because we're looking at volatility, we want to make sure we see it in the spark line.
54:45And for filterability, I want to give my users an ability to look at their own page.
54:54Great.
54:55That metric is now live and ready to be followed in Tableau Pulse.
55:00So no matter where I am,
55:03If I'm on the go, I can open Tableau Mobile app and I'm greeted with metrics that matter to me.
55:09Yeah, the AI generative summary is telling me that we can the page are on the upward swing.
55:15And that's interesting
55:17And I really, really, uh I think that's awesome.
55:20But what I'm noticing is subscribers isn't tracking along.
55:24And it's normally pretty tightly correlated, so it's worth a drill down.
55:28I want to see our specific pages.
55:34And right away, sustainability catches my eye.
55:38Why?
55:39This is normally a low visibility, low traffic page, so what's going on?
55:44Tableau Pulse gives me some questions to get started, but I have my own.
55:50What is the source of these page views?
55:55And Tableau Pulse is intelligent enough to interpret that these page views use very high-weekly page views.
56:01And I'm looking at our top three sources, two of them are environmental news sources.
56:06And they've recently written articles in the past week about
56:10Um net zero companies and they've linked our sustainability page, which is amazing.
56:15That explains the website traffic.
56:18But what it doesn't explain is why subscribers isn't tracking a lot.
56:22So I need to get a little bit more curious about my data.
56:26I need to analyze the website traffic flow.
56:29And you know what I think about personally when I have to visualize that's right.
56:35Thanky charts.
56:39So who's ready to put on their trigonometry hats and write some path calculations?
56:45Well, not me either.
56:46It's a little early.
56:47So this is where we use the Sankey Viz extensions
56:53Viz extensions are the new way to create strikingly beautiful, complex visualizations with just a few clicks.
57:00So let's do this pretty quickly.
57:02I want to know who's entered the website.
57:06I want to know where they go next.
57:08And of course, I want to know the outcome of the visit.
57:14We also need to see the flow and the volume of folks entering our website.
57:19And this seems to clear it up.
57:20On the sustainability page,
57:22A lot of folks are clicking in, reading the material, and linking through.
57:27But when we have subscribers, we see the highest conversion rate coming from our blog pages.
57:33So we need to find a way to push the traffic over to our blog.
57:37I don't know how to do that, but I know who does.
57:39Our website team.
57:41So I'll shoot them a quick update.
57:43Let's see if we can find a solution to try out.
57:46This is a very good idea.
57:49Narratives.
57:50And it looks like it's a good idea.
57:54I like it.
57:54I don't know.
57:54What do you think?
57:55Push people over to our blog.
57:57And so I'm sitting back, I'm sipping my coffee, I'm like, that's a that's a good, I'm feeling very accomplished.
58:03I've onboarded a new team to Tableau.
58:06I've uncovered a way to streamline the business, and we're devising an action plan in real time based on
58:12on our data.
58:13And best yet, we have a subscribers metric that keeps everybody aligned to the measures of our success.
58:19And it looks like someone's just shared an update.
58:22It looks like our fix is working and subscribers is moving upwards.
58:26That's a job well done and go team.
58:29It's a good story.
58:30Well well we'll strap together lots of um So data fans you have just seen how Tableau is devising and driving a data culture for every
58:41Let's see how a customer is using Tableau in their day-to-day.
58:45Over to you, Ryan.
58:47Alright.
58:49Way to go, Esther and Emacs, thank you so much for uh showing us that.
58:54And um I really wanted to spend the next uh couple of minutes to bring up the amazing Walid Mahana.
59:00Please join us.
59:01Great to see you.
59:02Thanks for having me.
59:03Thanks for being here all the way from Germany.
59:05So you are the uh SVP and Chief Data NA Officer, correct, at uh KGAA Darmstadt, Germany.
59:14I'm doing my best to say that right.
59:15You nailed it.
59:16All right.
59:17Well it's really good to have you here.
59:18And um I know we've spent some time together, both here, of course, and in Germany.
59:23And what I wanted to really understand a little bit, we've talked about the various waves of data and analytics, but also we've talked a lot about just our space in general.
59:31And I maybe you can
59:31could just orient the audience a bit on sort of what are the things that you're going through with your data and AI strategy currently.
59:38Happy to do so.
59:39So Merck KJA Darmstadt Germany, also known as EMD in the US, is a global science and technology.
59:45company.
59:45We work across the healthcare, life sciences and electronics.
59:48And we are a federated organization.
59:51Also a data and AI strategy is very much federated.
59:55And our strategy is to be as close as possible to our patients, to our customers, to our partners on the ground.
60:01And that means that everything we do needs to be efficient, it needs to be scalable, and it needs to be very
60:08Close to the customer.
60:09And that's exactly why we are partnering also with Tableau.
60:12Very good.
60:13Well, you're doing a great job so far from what I can tell, and I love that you're leaning into the strategy and leaning into Wave 3.
60:19You know, one thing that also maybe the audience would benefit from is, you know, every person I speak to seems to be at a different stage, right?
60:26Some are still in wave two, they're kind of trying to figure out how to leverage AI in their business.
60:31Do you have any advice around sort of you know migrating or moving through these waves that may be useful for the audience?
60:38Sure.
60:38So first of all, nothing's black and white.
60:41It's a lot of shades of gray and not every organization or not any organization can be fully in wave three or one or two.
60:48You will always have pockets of excellence that are further along than the others.
60:52So actually you look for the champions, you look for the early adopters, you look for the ones who are hungry for data, hungry for insights, those are your best allies to get started and then you take it from there and you met people
61:07So it sounds to me like you actually kind of said find the community members within of the company which is pretty awesome.
61:14We have a lot of those people here.
61:15Um I heard that you're using pulse
61:18Which is pretty awesome too.
61:19We do.
61:20Yeah.
61:20Well thank you for that.
61:21We're very grateful.
61:23Um do you think you'd be willing to show the audience maybe what you're doing with Pulse?
61:27Because I know we demo a lot of stuff, but it'd be more interesting if you show
61:29Showed us.
61:30I might look similar, but happy to do it in life.
61:33All right.
61:33In real time.
61:38Good.
61:39So this is my personal iPhone.
61:42Okay.
61:42That's my today's pods.
61:43It's not real data.
61:45But as you can see, it it looks like the demos.
61:50But that's the things that we that we have.
61:53So this is now the real time
61:57And as you can see we have the overview, we have the KPIs.
62:01And what I'm personally also as an executive is um I love it.
62:11First of all, it's focused, it is actionable, and it's timely proactive.
62:18So dashboards are great.
62:20Dashboards are great for an overview.
62:21They are great as a control center
62:24But in the daily business executives are busy and what they want is his real next time.
62:36So you have the breakdown, you can look at things, you have the ask function that we that we've seen also in the other demo.
62:44And that's what I'm saying.
62:45what really makes a difference and we also use it for example to look into um our own applications.
62:52So I always tell my team
62:53They don't like dogs.
62:54I don't know about you.
63:03to become data driven.
63:05This is why I want every launch, every app, every data that we can get from our own data managed exactly like the same
63:13And when we look at things, so for example, the daily messages, this is MyGPT, our chat GPT clone that we have internally, you see that the messages are going down.
63:21So that was a concern for me to be honest.
63:24But the good news is daily usage is going up, which means the team is doing a good job to streamlining the back end and the messages.
63:31So everything is green.
63:32Well I had to ask a few people why why messages are going down and everybody told me that's good.
63:37I said okay then I'm then I'm good again.
63:40Sounds like you have a pulse on your business
63:43We have to.
63:43Yeah.
63:44I mean it's such an easy one.
63:45Well, I um number one, you did a great job demoing and like
63:49Like I think maybe next time we're gonna get you up on stage to do this.
63:52I did that.
63:53We're extremely grateful for what you're doing.
63:55And um I think in general you might get attacked over uh after the conference or after the show because everyone wants to see how you're using pulse
64:02But I think you're really showing us a great example.
64:04Um, and I really do think it is an opportunity for people to change the paradigm.
64:08You still need the analysts, you still need all the data behind the scenes, but it allows you to bring that and really empower and touch everyone with data.
64:16and insight.
64:16So absolutely great job and um very grateful that you're here.
64:20Thank you.
64:21Happy to be here.
64:22Thank you.
64:22Yeah.
64:23All right.
64:28Well that was great and um well yet again thank you so much I uh you know pulse really excites me because it really is like having AI in the palm of your hand
64:38And it's trusted AI.
64:39I like it.
64:40And I think having that in your business, whatever it is, the business that you're in, you can have it at your fingertips.
64:47And it really is a way to extend what we're doing.
64:50So that's a lot of what we've talked about, wave one, two, three.
64:54What I want to do now is shift.
64:56Um, as I said before, you're all here with us, you're all data people, and we want to take you on a journey.
65:02We wanna take you on the next journey, which is
65:04The future of Tableau.
65:08This is something that we want to bring to you.
65:10We want to get your feedback.
65:12But to do this, we have to look and listen.
65:15Um I've learned along the way that listening and deep listening is a really important part of my job.
65:21Very, very bold.
65:21And so we've been really trying to understand what is the common theme over here for customers.
65:26Community members, analysts, executives, we kind of continue to hear and come back to this point that I hear specifically that your jobs are too difficult.
65:35They're too hard.
65:36It is still too hard to get the right data.
65:47So we un we're trying to unlock it.
65:48And I use it probably two, three times a week.
65:52I wouldn't agree with your premise.
65:54It is a paradigm you have to try.
65:55It's very different to your usual.
65:57Of course
65:58Is that the data landscape is extremely large and fragmented.
66:01I don't have to tell you this, you all know this.
66:03There's trap data.
66:05There's data living in different places.
66:07The data could be on premise, it could be in the cloud, it could be, you know, it really doesn't matter.
66:12It could be in many different applications, as we see from the survey results, and this is a problem.
66:17The second challenge is really around the fact that not all users trust the data.
66:22Now, some of you may feel confident that your data and your visualizations are great.
66:26But not everyone in the company trusts it.
66:28And we know that from some of the statistics we see that large, large majority of folks say there's a need for higher trustworthiness in data.
66:36The third challenge is that a lot of these insights, even if you trust them, they're not in the work you're doing.
66:44They're missed.
66:45They're overlooked.
66:46They're ignored.
66:47That's not great either because then you know you're making the potentially the wrong decision.
66:51You're guessing.
66:52We don't want you to guess.
66:53We want you to be data driven.
66:55And the one that I really think is a big opportunity for us all, and I hope you're excited by as we talk about it and unpack it today, is really that there's no way to reuse all this great work you do every day.
67:06There's no way to monetize what you do.
67:08There's no way to share it with your fellow community members and your fellow colleagues at your office or at your job.
67:13We want you to be able to reuse your work.
67:16Not just the visualizations, but all your work.
67:19So that is really what we're going to talk about.
67:21And I'm extremely excited to go into this next chapter or next wave, which I call the fourth wave.
67:28Of analytics.
67:29And now you're going, whoa, hold on.
67:30You said there were three waves, and now there's a fourth wave.
67:34I hope I'm a good surfer.
67:35I'm not a good surfer.
67:37But the fourth wave, it's important, right?
67:40Regardless of where you are in your journey, maybe in wave two, wave three, etc.
67:44, as Elizabeth talked about, we still need to focus on the future
67:48We are all in an AI revolution, and we need to be focused on the fact that we need to think about where we're going so we can better get there and chart that course together.
67:56So this is the next generation of Tableau, and I'm gonna go to the next step now and bring up our amazing chief product officer, Souther Jones, who has a really great shirt on button.
68:09Thank you, Ryan
68:10Let's see, let's see.
68:12Woo!
68:13I'm really curious to see how this lands.
68:15Uh hello TC.
68:17I am fired up to be here
68:19Uh this is my first time standing in front of everyone here at TC.
68:22I'm this is it is uh kind of like a moment of of uh of my of my career.
68:30So
68:30Uh thank you all and I hope you all enjoyed the innovations you saw from Esther and Emacs.
68:36All part of Wave 3.
68:37I'm gonna talk to you about wave four.
68:39In fact, we're gonna do something a little different.
68:41Little bold.
68:43We're gonna paint a picture for you for the future of Tableau
68:49I'm going to show you a completely different user experience, a whole bunch of new capabilities, and some concepts that are going to stretch your mind.
68:58Why am I doing that?
68:59I'm really curious to see what people think.
69:01Because we want your feedback.
69:02As Ryan said, we want to hear what you think about this.
69:06You are our light post.
69:08You are our guides
69:09And on on our way to the fourth wave, we want to know what you think about it.
69:14We do believe this vision can help make your job easier.
69:17That's what we're trying to do.
69:18So we want to understand if we're able to do that.
69:20And solve all the challenges that Ryan just laid out.
69:23Those challenges start with data.
69:25Oh.
69:26Data is fragmented, as Ryan mentioned.
69:27It's trapped in lots of different places.
69:29And our users, our customers, they want it faster and faster.
69:32They want to see it in basically real time.
69:35We have a vision to solve that.
69:37We call it real-time cloud scale data.
69:41And you're saying, what is that?
69:43Nice marketing term, Sartre.
69:44What is that?
69:45Well, I know someone who can explain it well to you.
69:48Please join me in welcoming Podmashur Kennedy to the stage.
69:50Podmasher, come on up.
69:52Thank you, Southern.
69:55Hello, TC
69:57I have the best job ever.
69:58I get to work with some of the finest product managers and developers who are building all the amazing innovations that you're about to see at this conference.
70:06We just can't wait to share all that with you.
70:08So, what is real-time cloud scale data?
70:12Imagine this.
70:13I am a marketing analyst at an endangered species nonprofit, which is trying to digitally engage people around the world to get them to donate to our cause.
70:22I have 130 billion records of digital impression data, videos, email correspondences, photos, social media threads, digital ads.
70:33I'm supposed to make sense of all of this structured and unstructured data, build relationships, and get to insights.
70:40And oh by the way, remember this data is growing every single day.
70:43The world of an analyst is really messy, right?
70:46Yeah.
70:47In the future, I will have a modern data lakehouse platform where all this data is nicely organized in one single place.
70:55All my videos, all my campaign information, all of it in a is in a centralized tableau workspace
71:03I'm able to make sense of all of this.
71:05I'm also able to get to the best reliable performance, larger and larger and more diverse data sets.
71:11Um faster queries, all of it.
71:12Let's see.
71:12Now with all of this data in a single place ready to go, I'm now ready to start modeling.
71:18My modeling interface in Tableau is augmented with generative AI, which helps me with challenging tasks like defining relationships and creating metrics.
71:27With just a few clicks, I'm able to accept these suggestions and create metric definitions for, in my case, engagement, click-through rates, donations, and other things that help me measure my campaign performance.
71:40In this experience now, back in the workspace, I'm able to see all of those created metrics.
71:45I'm also able to see a suggested visualization for how I should think about my campaign performance.
71:50Let's take a closer look and see how things are going.
71:54Here in my Tableau exploration interface, again a reimagined one, I'm able to see all that real-time data.
72:00I'm also able to see some suggestions from Genitive AI saying which are the kinds of ads that are actually having the right performance.
72:08It's those sunny happy faces of my favorite wildlife.
72:12Those are the ones that are actually doing really well.
72:15Oof, look at those.
72:16I could keep looking at these pictures all day long.
72:19But look on the left hand side, I have real-time campaign performance.
72:24My team has never seen anything like this before.
72:26They're just absolutely gonna love it.
72:29So in this future with Tableau, you will be able to process billions and billions of records of structured and unstructured data.
72:40And get to real-time insights that will help you drive your mission or your business forward.
72:45That's how Tableau is gonna deliver real-time cloud scale data.
72:49Awesome.
72:51Woo Very fair point, Britt.
72:54Of course it's gonna look a bit like SouthWorks.
73:00Right?
73:01We've got, you know, I people when I see when I show a dashboard to someone, they say, where did this come from?
73:06How do I know it's right?
73:08And how often is it in organizations
73:10You all have multiple versions of the data metric.
73:14We still have three more things.
73:16Trusted sacrosanct governed datasets are hard for analysts to come by
73:21And even when they do really good work, that work stays in their same same old silo, right?
73:26And this can be time consuming, this can be frustrating, this can be very expensive for an organization.
73:32It's also a shame because a lot of that data can actually be trusted.
73:36What are we going to do about that?
73:37Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
73:39Uh as I mentioned before, 20 years in this industry.
73:42I feel like we're always in this constant trade-off between
73:45Delivering the perfect governing data set that a corporation demands versus giving the agility and freedom that we all love to create metrics and work with data just like that.
73:54Well we have s an idea on how to solve this problem and get the best of both worlds.
73:58We call it agile semantics for trusted insights.
74:04So imagine this.
74:05I am a customer service analyst.
74:07I get this nice big gigantic CSV file.
74:10It's post-call survey data.
74:12I want to analyze that to understand how well we're servicing our customers.
74:15So let's jump into Tableau.
74:17And in the future here, I can imagine a beautiful workflow that takes me down the path of going from that raw data to trusted data.
74:25So the first thing I need to do is probably cleanse it.
74:26So let's jump in.
74:28So in the past I'd have to tell the system what to do to clean my data.
74:32Why doesn't the system tell me what I should be doing?
74:34This is sort of abstract.
74:38Maybe that's removing duplicates, giving handling nulls clearer, splitting columns.
74:43We can do all that for you, recommending what steps you need to take.
74:46So cleaning the data, that's great.
74:49We like clean data, that's nice.
74:51But here's a part that gets roo super cool.
74:54We can also do something else.
74:56We can suggest semantics.
74:57So no matter if your data is coming from a CSV file,
75:00Or system like SAP, we can actually identify metrics, we can identify dimensions, we can identify hierarchies and suggest them to you.
75:09Greatly accelerating your path from that raw data to something that you can use in your organization.
75:15In this case, we've identified a satisfaction rating.
75:18It's giving me this nice metric.
75:19That's exactly what I want.
75:21But I want to analyze that metric against something that's somewhere else.
75:25Someone else has already built a regional hierarchy.
75:27And I want to analyze my satisfaction rating across the North American continent.
75:32So how would I do that?
75:34Well imagine that we had a set of semantic models.
75:37One for sales, one for service, one for commerce.
75:40Incredible.
75:41We could have that in the future, and I want to choose one of those models in which I want to analyze my new ad hoc metric by.
75:47So let's do that.
75:48So I could have a you can see here in blue my governed semantic model.
75:51This is the one that's been certified that everyone in the organization trusts and below you see my ad hoc metrics, my satisfaction rating.
75:59If I could just join the two of them and analyze them in Tableau, well that exactly what we can do.
76:03Let's take a visualization and boom.
76:05Now I'm looking at this beautiful visualization
76:08of my ad hoc metric with the certified regional hierarchy I do think way to go to San Diego.
76:15We're doing really great northeast where I'm from, we got some work to do.
76:20So now I've shared this with my manager.
76:22We've discussed it.
76:23A manager trusts the data because they know exactly where the data came from.
76:26They see the lineage.
76:27Wow.
76:27They now want to share that metric, this one I created
76:31With everyone.
76:32So we can all benefit from this insight.
76:34So how do I take this ad hoc metric I just created and make it part of a certified governed
76:41Model that everyone can look at.
76:42Well, through a workflow.
76:44Quick, simple approval workflow.
76:45I can promote that metric up to the governed one, make it part of my govern model, and voila.
76:51Now I have customer satisfaction rating as part of my overall certified metric and I can share that broadly across organization.
76:58That's how we can deliver more trusted insights, yet still keep the agility and flexibility that we all demand as analysts.
77:05Trusted insights, thumbs up.
77:06Well, I think they're pretty cool.
77:07I think most people like trusted insights, but we still have one big problem that's been plaguing the BI industry for a long time, and that is I get an insight, but how do we actually turn it into an action?
77:18Right now, best case scenario, that's an offline activity, swivelture applications, and maybe something happens.
77:28I kind of made a video about that.
77:29So please tell me whether they're going to figure out what we're doing.
77:32Absolutely we do.
77:33This is actually my favorite part.
77:37Take another picture.
77:38Imagine it.
77:39I am a service manager in the northeast region of my company.
77:43It is Monday morning.
77:45With my cup of coffee, I'm in my favorite collaboration tool, Slack.
77:48I am looking at the weekly digest of business metrics for my team.
77:52Without missing a beat.
77:54I'm able to be on the right hand side panel over here, take a look at my first time to close metric.
78:00With natural language, I'm able to see here that what is that?
78:04My team has been crushing it this past
78:07That is the largest customer satisfaction rating I have seen for this whole year for my team.
78:12I think I should reward them.
78:14What do you say?
78:14Yes, totally.
78:15Give them lots of money, lots of squats.
78:16Let's do it.
78:16Let's do it
78:17Okay.
78:18Custom actions.
78:19I now launch a budget request to ask for some money to help my team get some swag, maybe throw them a party.
78:27My team I'm just a lucky team.
78:30My manager receives this request in the HR application workday
78:35So over here, they're able to see all the details of my budget request.
78:39And look, they also have business metrics in the flow of their work.
78:44I hope they will approve it.
78:46Let's see what happens.
78:49This is just amazing.
78:50So they are now approving that.
78:52And so when my service manager logs in for the day
78:55They're able to see that metric right there.
78:57They're able to see the notification to tell them to go collect some swag.
79:01So what we have done here is that we have brought together disparate tools.
79:05We brought together analytics, collaboration
79:19And get them to go seamlessly from workflows to actions, from insights to action.
79:24And that is what we're seeing here.
79:26In addition, something we've never seen before, a workflow tool fully integrated inside your BI platform.
79:32That's what we're looking at.
79:33out over there.
79:34So that's how we go from insights to action.
79:36I like it.
79:36That's incredible.
79:38Everyone's moving to this uh in this direction.
79:42Um
79:43And finally like Ryan was mentioning, you know, how do you actually create more views out of the work that you do around the world?
79:48There's so much that happens that we are able to only keep with ourselves or able to only affect a few types of change.
79:55Um our community, of course, you know, thanks to you all, we have had this rich legacy of taking what we have and sharing those visualizations out there.
80:04What is the video I did as a data professional
80:07You were not only able to share your visits, but you're actually able to share composable components of the workflow in your data pipeline.
80:16Creating more reos and more.
80:19Yes, I heard someone say yes, we want to do that.
80:21That is about to be able to do that.
80:23I can't tell you how many times I've gone through this process of getting my data
80:27Preparing for prep flows, creating some metrics, creating some visas, and then only finding out a few days later someone else did almost the exact same work.
80:36Some of us wasted time.
80:37I I probably wasted time because they probably did it better, but oh what a pain.
80:41Can we find some way of reducing that enabling us to share all of our work?
80:46So
80:46Imagine a situation where as I walk log in a tableau, I have a workspace.
80:51And in this case, uh I've pulled data from census, consumer confidence, and weather data.
80:57I've created some prep flows where I've combined that data.
81:00I've created a semantic model for my trusted source of difficulty.
81:08This is a nice composable set of assets.
81:18Tabla cloud.
81:18I know where all those settings are.
81:20This is just moved away from the colour.
81:21From those different layers and just and package them up.
81:24What am I doing package them up?
81:25Like put a wrapper around that.
81:27And therefore, share it more broadly.
81:29When I put a wrap around it, I give it a title, I can give it a description, I can tag it.
81:36I can even put a price tag on it.
81:38Maybe I'm starting my own business.
81:40Many of you are really good at this.
81:42We can share our assets.
81:43We can also maybe even sell them.
81:44Maybe I want to give it away for free.
81:46That's great too.
81:48That is now a wrapped up that I can get to someone else who can then take the stuff that people do.
81:55And we can share the work we've done.
81:57We've used a lot of network.
81:58So how would everyone here this audience get access to that?
82:01Well, through a marketplace.
82:03That's how.
82:03So imagine a marketplace now where each of us can have profiles, much like you have today, but I could share visits and other assets.
82:10I could share foot clothes, I could share semantic models, I could share data sets.
82:14I could charge for them or I can give them a for free.
82:17That's exactly where we're going.
82:19And it's great as part of public.
82:21But a lot of us have stuff that we use inside of our own companies too.
82:25So what if I had a marketplace that I could just set up inside of my organization?
82:29And I could create assets that inside of my org, maybe it's data sets that are specific to our organization.
82:34or semantic models or visits that are specific to us and I wanted that to happen too.
82:38Hey, why not allow you to have a marketplace inside of your board too?
82:42Public marketplace for everyone.
82:43And then going within your ordinary department.
82:46That is exactly what you're doing.
82:50Absolutely.
82:51Yeah.
82:51Never mind what we've built before.
82:53For what if you just have to do that?
82:56I mean, across the entire world, forty two different countries, fifty five speaking languages
83:01You all have been instrumental in creating and fostering an analytics community and quite frankly helping the world make sense of data.
83:09I do think what you just showed here is gonna have a deep and lasting impact on this
83:12future.
83:13All right, we'll get to work on it.
83:14Yeah.
83:14Let's do it.
83:15Actually we already are working on it.
83:22And as Ryan mentioned before, we're unwavering on that mission
83:26We're also now helping you act on it.
83:28And that is part of what I ho I just showed you.
83:30I hope you all enjoyed this vision.
83:31I hope it did stretch your mind.
83:33And we do want your feedback.
83:34We want you to tell you what you thought about this, what things you liked, what things you think we are missing.
83:38That is what we're here for.
83:41We're working on a lot of this right now, but the future is really bright.
83:44All of you are part of it.
83:45You again, you're our guideposts, our lights.
83:47So we look forward to working with you more on where we're taking this
83:50Back to you, Ryan.
83:52All right.
83:52Great job.
83:53Let's give him a hand.
83:54Nice work.
83:55Thank you.
84:01you today about the fourth wave of analytics.
84:03And really this is the next generation of Tableau.
84:05Now you may be wondering, well, they just showed us some things, but how do I get my hands on this?
84:10If you truly want my feedback, if I'm sitting in the audience, you need to give me access to it.
84:15And so the next opportunity to do that, or the first opportunity to do that
84:19will be coming soon.
84:21Um and I think it's important that it the one thing I said before, we want your feedback, we want to take you on this journey
84:27The opportunity starts only a few months from now and that will happen of course at Dreamforce.
84:33And so Dreamforce will be where we launched this product.
84:36You'll have access to it.
84:37You'll hear more about it.
84:39Um but we have some time between now and then.
84:41And as part of that, we are gonna offer you if you're here today, we're gonna offer you a discount to come to Dreamforce.
84:47That'll be coming, I believe, by email.
84:49And so I hope you all have an opportunity to join us there to learn more about.
84:53Dream force.
84:54Future of Tableau.
84:55Oh, Dream Force.
84:57Being Lord.
84:58So next.
84:59One thing I think we're all waiting for
85:01Is devs on stage?
85:02Who's ready?
85:04Devs on stage!
85:05I love it, but that's the reference.
85:07So we're gonna bring up our amazing engineering team and show you some things that we've been building.
85:12And the best person to do that is Matthew Miller, who I think is gonna pop out.
85:16There he is!
85:17Welcome Matthew, our senior director of product management.
85:22It is time.
85:23It is time for what might be my favorite part of Tableau Conference.
85:28And that is Devs on Stage.
85:31It is the part of the show where you get to meet the dreamers, the builders, the makers, the ones who bring you Tableau.
85:41Now, these are real developers.
85:44They're not executives or seasoned veterans of the keynote stage.
85:48You are their largest audience by an enormous margin.
85:52Yet they have practiced, they've prepared, they've trained, they rehearsed, and they are so excited to show you what we are building for you.
86:00Are you ready?
86:03Then I'd like to ask you to do something a little unusual.
86:05Would you stand your feet with me and give a huge TC welcome to the 2024
86:09Devs on stage.
86:12Let's go.
86:13Representing Tableau Public.
86:16It's Sophia Goko representing Tableau Public.
86:20It's Celine Murughi representing Tableau Pulse.
86:24Those were the things.
86:25Carolina DeMello is Souza.
86:27And representing developer platform.
86:29It's Tony KO.
86:34Thank you so much.
86:35You may be seated.
86:37Pineapple.
86:37Sophia?
86:38I don't get the pineapple reference.
86:39I always forget what it's about.
86:40Hi everyone and what's up TC
86:46My name is Sophia and I'm a dev on Tableau Prep, which fuels my love for connecting people to their data.
86:54I live in Seattle with my husband Brandon, who's a pilot.
86:58So he connects people to other parts around the world.
87:03In here at Tableau, we use the product as much as you do, and it connects us all
87:10We have an endless stream of data, dashboards, flows, data sources, which we all know can get a little turbulent at times.
87:20But what if you had a way to see and understand your tableau?
87:26Well, introducing the data cockpit.
87:32A centralized view of all of the rich admin insights you've asked for to take control of your environment
87:39Admins your questions are answered.
87:45You can see who's contributed to your Tableau site.
87:49what data they've used and if that data is certified.
87:53You can even see where that data came from.
87:56This is your flight deck.
87:58to easily monitor and navigate all of your data across multiple sites and projects.
88:04Now this weirdly hard is governance to build something.
88:07So table in the product's perfect.
88:09This cockpit navigation thing is easier than I thought.
88:13Step aside, husband, we have two aviators in the family now.
88:18Well speaking of flying, not only do I love data, but I love to travel.
88:23I'm even in a travel group with Tableau co-workers.
88:26So naturally.
88:27We're using Tableau to plan our upcoming trip.
88:30Everyone is so excited.
88:32They're all adding data to propose a location.
88:35But it's time to make a decision.
88:38We voted on our top five locations.
88:41And my next step is to narrow them down even further based on our desired trip activities like scuba diving, wine tasting, you name it.
88:51I want to find a location that best captures the things we want to do.
88:55And what better way than to base it off online reviews?
88:59So I went and gathered online activity reviews for these top destinations and pulled them into prep.
89:06But I might need some help to clean and transform this data.
89:11Wait, what is that?
89:14Is that an Einstein button?
89:17In prep?
89:19Well, coming soon to a flow near you.
89:22Einstein co-pilot for prep.
89:26Very cool.
89:29In prep it's probably an interesting place because
89:36Sometimes knowing like the sequencing.
89:38Einstein generates a step-by-step breakdown so you can tackle this.
89:43Need to union multiple files?
89:45Easy.
89:47Duplicates in your data?
89:49One click and they're gone.
89:51How else can AI make data prep easier?
89:54It's literally building the steps.
89:56I want to make this decision based on the positivity of reviews.
90:00But how do I turn those reviews into something measurable?
90:04Wouldn't it be cool if Prep could interpret the tone within Raw Text?
90:10While introducing the all-new sentiment analysis in prep.
90:18Nice.
90:18That's just a very basic idea.
90:20It summarizes the underlying emotion behind your data with the numeric score and label.
90:27I want to focus on the positive results, so let's filter in positive and sort the results.
90:34This positive review has a score of 0.
90:373
90:37three, but I'd like to recategorize what positive means in this data context.
90:42Let's fine-tune this positive range to only include the most enthusiastic reviews.
90:49That generated a score of 0.
90:527 or higher.
90:54That looks much more positive.
90:56Using our final Einstein step, let's output this to an activities published data source
91:01And pull the sentiment data into a dashboard for deeper analysis.
91:05And taking a look at our most positive activity reviews, Fiji and New Zealand are in the lead.
91:15But we will need more data to make a decision.
91:19Hotel costs, flight costs, it all adds up.
91:23Let's start by bringing in some cost data to Tableau.
91:26This published data source from our travel group contains costs
91:30for those top destinations.
91:32Is that what I think?
91:33It also includes the exchange rate to help make sure you are more within budget.
91:37Keep listening.
91:37Now published data sources are amazing.
91:40But we've heard that you want to extend them even further.
91:47Well, Data Fam.
91:48I am thrilled to announce coming soon composable data sources.
91:57People are like, what wait, what is that?
91:59Yeah.
92:00Just keep listening.
92:01You can now combine published data sources.
92:05There we go.
92:08I'll give the floors for that.
92:11I know you've been waiting a long time for that one.
92:15Let's bring in that activity sentiment data and combine it with our cost data.
92:19This will bring in cost for each of those top activities.
92:22There we go.
92:24The original data sources remain unchanged, but I can enrich and explore them like adding in my own data, like a text file for popular destinations near those activities.
92:37And guess what?
92:39When the certified source data updates with new tables and calculations, updated field descriptions, you name it.
92:49Every single data source downstream inherits those updates.
92:54That's right.
92:55Make a change once and it applies everywhere.
92:59How amazing is that it's gonna be so good.
93:04That is gonna be so good.
93:06Now that I have one central data source, I can publish it to be viewed by everyone in our travel group
93:11I want to create a description.
93:14And I could scroll through all the data to come up with my own, but I don't have time for that.
93:19I've got a troop to plan.
93:21So instead, I'm gonna rely on the new Einstein Copilot for Tableau Catalog.
93:27Okay.
93:29The all new draft the Einstein button generates a detailed summary using your metadata and field names.
93:36I just combined a lot of triples.
93:40And with this summary, understanding's a breeze.
93:43This description is great.
93:45Thanks, Einstein.
93:48Now that we've combined all of our activity sentiment data and cost information, we need to make the most cost-effective decision
93:56So let's add in all the relevant costs.
93:59First for the activities.
94:01And next for hotel costs.
94:04Oh, it's still close between Fiji and New Zealand.
94:07Coming into the final approach, let's add in those flight costs.
94:12And taking a look at all these factors, we have our winner!
94:16We're going to New Zealand.
94:21Do we have any Kiwis in the house?
94:26Just a few.
94:28Well, I'm off to book my ticket.
94:29Thank you, T C.
94:31Fasten your seatbelts.
94:33Now to take you on her data journey here's Celine.
94:43Hello, T C who's excited to be here
94:49You know what?
94:50I just can hear you.
94:51Who is excited to be here?
94:56My name is Celine Murughi and I'm the product manager for Tableau Public.
95:01Outside of building this great product, I love painting.
95:06Some of my favorite weekends are those spent in the studio, brush in hand and eager to see my work blossom.
95:13I'm sure any hobbyist can relate.
95:15I probably spent way too much money on painting supplies, but I had no way of knowing if that's true or not
95:23And from my time working on Tableau Public, I know that the data farm tracks anything and everything.
95:32Figma and all of these damages.
95:36But this process was manual.
95:40I'm never surprised when I see Figma, but
95:42Just like that, some lower revealed that I was spending too much on art support.
95:49But I wanted to go beyond a bar chart.
95:51I needed an easy, insightful way for me to understand my finances.
95:57Now introducing across all Tableau platforms Tableau native and community powered Visa Extensions
96:12Access custom viz types right from your Max card.
96:16Supercharged by the incredible innovation from our dedicated community members, partners, and developers.
96:24Employ all the drag and drop that you love about Fableau for the perfect canvas to create new stunning visualizations
96:33Sankeys, sunbursts, cords, beeswarms, and more.
96:38Formaty is a breeze.
96:41Less time wrestling with complex geometry cults, more time exploring.
96:46Thanks to Tristan and Jessica from La DataViz, I now know I now know I spent too much on art supplies
96:59So tomorrow is May 1st.
97:02And do you know what that means?
97:05My odd spend resets to zero
97:09And while I'm here in San Diego, I want to visit nearby art shops and murals for inspiration.
97:15I'll travel sustainably, so I overlay bus routes over my map.
97:21Well, that's a lot of bus routes, but which of these bus routes lead me to the most art shops and murals
97:28Complex spatial joints take forever and generate a gigantic table of data.
97:34They also take me away from my visual analysis.
97:37But what if it was easy?
97:40What if I could dynamically update the radius around each line?
97:45We got you data farm for coming soon is
97:51Tableau special parameters.
97:57This is a reasonable.
97:58Just like that, we have the new special parameters
98:01Check the comments to see why I'm not talking at the moment.
98:03Set lightweight functions that just work.
98:07Even across different data sources.
98:10What data sources you may ask, transportation, supply chain, direct mail campaigns, and for me, art supply stores
98:22Tableau makes it easy and looks good doing it.
98:27I'll now use this spatial parameter and the new intercept calculation to choose a bus route.
98:34I'll compare this one.
98:36And I'll also compare this one.
98:39This north one seems to have a lot of places to visit, so north it is
98:46We all integrate and enjoy our team.
98:57Keyboard Vigation Navigate marks, headers and axes
99:06This is amazing.
99:06Using the arrow keys on your people.
99:09Watch how easy it is for me to navigate this map.
99:14I can then delve into specific areas of interest throughout this dashboard.
99:20This is inclusivity and accessibility.
99:27Everybody, including those using assistive technologies.
99:31Will now have an in-depth, consistent experience.
99:35Nice.
99:36I now have a budget and a list of art shops to visit.
99:40So my job here is complete.
99:43Thank you
99:48But wait, wait, before I go, I do want to show you where I source my inspiration from as an artist.
99:56Good context, sure.
99:57You know
99:58African artists that have shaped my journey and how tableau takes data and transforms it into art.
100:05Let's now talk about readability.
100:09About simplicity, about clarity and cross-device compatibility.
100:15We got you, Data Farm.
100:17Get ready for 12 brand new.
100:21Google Fonts!
100:26It's not spell check, but we'll take fonts.
100:30You've asked for web-safe fonts that work well on the web, on the cloud and look great everywhere.
100:38We're bringing you concerns.
100:41Leto, not to sans
100:43And more.
100:44Never has there been so much what I would call it.
100:47All available in both and regular.
100:51We got you data farm.
100:54Like the creative that I am, I want my dashboard to look a certain way and feel a certain way.
101:01So I have decided to add some vis to it.
101:05See what I did there?
101:08TC, are you ready for this one?
101:13Are you ready for this one, TC?
101:16Now introducing custom star fiends!
101:24That is that deserved that kind of hype.
101:26That was very good.
101:28A few clicks and poof.
101:30The theme is applied to my entire dashboard.
101:34Love it.
101:36Love it.
101:37That's a great feature.
101:39Great feature.
101:40Oh my
101:41What a beautiful blend of different shades of brown this is.
101:46And how easy was that?
101:48This goes beyond my personal brand.
101:51Tableau empowers you to apply your company's colors to match your unique brand guidelines.
101:58No more menu diving, no more inconsistent dashboards across teams.
102:05benefit from the design jobs of others.
102:09All that time that you previously previously spent formatting can now be channeled into your analysis.
102:20Thanks to Tableau, I now know what access to visit.
102:25I have a beautifully customized dashboard.
102:28I have control over my finances
102:31And my shopping list is ready at hand.
102:36Data farm.
102:38There is a lot to look forward to.
102:41We see you, we hear you, and we love building for you.
102:46Over to you, Carolina
102:48Wow, I mean these these are very funny features.
102:52Some of these have been a little bit more than a little bit of a few.
102:53Hello everyone, I'm Carolina, design manager on the Tableau Pulse team.
102:59I have three kids and we also love to travel as a family.
103:05Our next destination is Salvador Bahia.
103:10But right now I'm excited to be at TC in San Diego with my team and all of you.
103:17Let's harness the power of Tableau to
103:19To stay on budget and still have a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
103:25I need access to my travel and expense dashboard, which requires me to be a member of the travel finance group.
103:33I'm a creator, so I need data to do my job.
103:36And I rely on Patrick, my Tableau Cloud Admin, to give me access to the group
103:42Now, Patrick's amazing, but often faces what feel like contradictory goals.
103:49Look at all this content.
103:51We ask him to secure everything.
103:53Label self-service.
103:55Free the data.
103:56Lock it down.
103:59Everyone needs more insights, but not everyone.
104:04It seems so hard to meet all those requirements and make everyone happy.
104:09Let's see if we can make all of this happen in Tableau Cloud.
104:15Whoa.
104:17Look at all these groups Patrick has to manage.
104:19Let's see, where's the one I need to be in?
104:21Oh, there it is.
104:22Travel finance.
104:25It would be so much easier if Patrick didn't have to manage all of these groups within Tableau.
104:31Come to think of it, I'm already a member of the travel finance group with our identity provider.
104:37But wait, what if it just worked?
104:41What if Tableau could automatically use group metadata for my IDP?
104:47That would save him so much time.
104:48Lovely enterprise future right there.
104:50Admins.
104:52This one is for you.
104:54Attribute-based membership.
104:57Nice.
104:58Nice nice nice
105:01Attribute based membership makes Tableau more secure because we're always up to date with your source of truth for group membership.
105:09I'm a creator, so I'm going to log in.
105:13Check this out!
105:15I got access to my dashboard automatically at sign-in thanks to attribute-based membership.
105:20It just worked
105:22How else can we personalize the experience based on user attributes?
105:28I'm actually Brazilian, so I think in Portuguese and often have to translate information in my head
105:35It would be so much easier if my data were already in Portuguese.
105:41Olha que legal!
105:44Wait, how did that happen?
105:48Thanks to user attribute functions, Tableau reacts to external factors and knows my preferences, so everything is now translated.
105:56It just works.
105:57How?
105:59But what if I don't know where to look for my data?
106:03Was there the data source must have had translations?
106:10Because you're busy on the go traveling and the data you need isn't available when and where you need it to be.
106:17And here in Tableau Cloud, we have so many insightful, purpose-built dashboards.
106:24Here's what I'm gonna do.
106:26I'm gonna embed that travel and expense dashboard on our internal site to make it easier for everyone.
106:32And we're gonna take it to the next level with the power of AI and Tableau Pulse.
106:40I'm so excited about Pulse.
106:43Louis, I will ask you to get it.
106:48I work on it.
106:49My team works on this and I can't wait to tell you more about it.
106:53I started taking notes and I stopped buying my metric.
106:58This needs a new approach.
106:59I'm gonna add the expense total metric first, and I can customize the layout.
107:04Rounded corners and
107:09And banded corners, honestly.
107:12I can add the full metric card or only the bands.
107:18Rand the corner is such a small.
107:20The A stands for analytical, right?
107:24All right, adding it to the dashboard.
107:26And the next one, since I have limited screen real estate, we'll keep to just the essentials.
107:31Ban only.
107:33The dashboard is ready and it's now embedded on the global travel site.
107:44I wonder if it means dashboards are actually a web proxy now.
107:49So that must mean the dashboard itself for some time now had web array.
107:57That's the power of pulse.
108:00And now you can get pulse bands anywhere you want.
108:05And that means anywhere.
108:08As you heard earlier, our CMO announced our expanded partnership with Microsoft, and we know many of you work in Teams.
108:19How would you like to be able to do that?
108:22I think the data source has to be able to do that.
108:26I'm doing it right here, right now.
108:30It's live people.
108:32I'm gonna share this with Patrick.
108:34Our expense total metric is loading and
108:41Bam, data has entered the chat.
108:48These are actionable insights.
108:51This is Tableau for everyone everywhere.
108:56Mark Soem support is pretty big.
108:58What if there were a way to use your Tableau data models in even more places?
109:03If you build it once in Tableau, it should just work for your analysts, data scientists, developers, for everyone.
109:11Introducing our newest data API, VisQL Data Service.
109:18That's not new.
109:19Free your data to be used securely in any application.
109:23We had this last year.
109:25Well maybe it was in beta.
109:27You love to work with data in code.
109:29Am I wrong, chat?
109:31Using VisQL data service, I can run a Python script to run a confidence ellipse around my travel and expense data
109:38straight from Tableau.
109:41Whoops, scrolling.
109:44And this uses that same data from that Tableau dashboard.
109:47Build it once and it just works.
109:52This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for developers to let's say I'm writing an Apple Watch application that makes use of my Tableau data model
110:01With VisQL data service, my app can use that same certified T<unk>E data source from earlier, and I get notified when my team submits an expense.
110:12That's real-time actionable data where you need it.
110:17You know what?
110:17Let's approve this expense right here, right now.
110:21Headless BR was last year, yeah.
110:23I agree.
110:25We want you to unlock your data, act on it, and make better decisions in your flow of work.
110:33Thank you.
110:35And here's Tony with a devs on stage first, but I can't give away the surprise
110:42Uh this I know.
110:44Hello everyone!
110:45Pineapple in hand.
110:47Welcome!
110:48My name is Tony Cale and I'm a PM for the developer platform team.
110:53Now, I'm about to show you something that has never been shown before at Devs on Stage.
110:58I'm going to be showing you solutions built by our community.
111:03Ben Bautista.
111:05Tristan Gilman and Jessica Bautista.
111:09Merlin Bout and Dr.
111:11Klaus Schultz.
111:15Whoa, whoa, wait a minute.
111:17Oh sorry, stop the presses.
111:18Tony, are you saying you're gonna show Tableau features
111:22That weren't built by Tableau devs in devs on stage?
111:26That's right, Matthew.
111:29We're gonna be showing capabilities built on top of Tableau.
111:33by the community, for the community.
111:35Does anybody want to see that?
111:38Hold on.
111:38Do we have any data devs in the house?
111:41All right.
111:42Take it away, Tony.
111:43Thank you, Matthew.
111:45Now, I volunteer for the STEM program at my kids school, and I want to build a beautiful dashboard for my students, the next generation of the DataFan.
111:55I would love to gain insight on how I can involve them with the Tableau community, but I don't know where to start.
112:03Well, Ben Balsilli and our friends at IntroWorks have built something special.
112:10Introducing
112:11The new way to jumpstart with data, curator AI search.
112:17Let's go ahead and type Tableau Community into the search bar.
112:21Curator AI Search is the place to search for all of your analysis content across all of your
112:31Tableau cloud and server deployments.
112:34That was not a good let's take a look.
112:36You also include other content types like blog posts.
112:39That's such a weird files.
112:40It must have been pre-screen.
112:41Along with dashboard and pulse metrics.
112:45All of your related information together in a single portal.
112:50This is pretty cool though.
112:51Now let's go take a look at the blog post here.
112:54And who here has heard of Tableau user groups?
113:01Curate AI Search also helps answer my questions with AI generated summary.
113:06Tableau user groups, aka Tugs, are inclusive meetup events for people to connect, learn, and discuss all things data.
113:15Now that sounds like a great place for my students to join the community.
113:21And there's even a dashboard that helps me.
113:24Tug user groups around the world.
113:26Now from here I can web edit and I can even download a copy for meeting.
113:37The search experience, but I want to make it a little bit more than a
113:52To collaborate research, but still very hard to do.
113:55I'm not saying it's interesting.
113:57I want to use those designs.
113:59How can I bring those designs and bring it to life in Tableau in no time at all?
114:06Well using the solutions built by Tristan Gillivan, a tableau visionary and Jessica Bautista at Black Dataviz, score we can use Figma to Tableau plugin.
114:20With their brand new dashboards feature.
114:26This really is Figma.
114:29From here, I actually could collaborate Tristan.
114:32He helped me choose colors.
114:34We talked about even show me how to use rounded containers
114:40Still on the stage.
114:41And here's where the magic happens.
114:44The Figma plugin also allows me to map any existing worksheet.
114:51To my design, and then I can export my redesigned dashboard to a new Tableau workbook.
115:01That was so easy.
115:03It's done it five times.
115:04Wow.
115:05I just went from ordinary to this wait for it.
115:11Shinary.
115:12Me.
115:13And we published this to the cloud, but I do see a problem.
115:19California has no data at all.
115:22What's going on?
115:25Well, to help us investigate this issue, let's bring up super tables
115:31Built by Merlin Bald and team at Teamful Topics.
115:36So immediately I do see that there are some highlighted rows that tell me that something is wrong.
115:43But I could fix it right here.
115:47And we're going to go ahead and type this in because there is a spell of mistakes.
115:53So we're going to enter California and this is live changes everybody right back
116:00For super tables feature, brand new, we can apply our changes now right here.
116:05The way I can input table changes directly on this dashboard.
116:11This will not overwrite underlying data at all.
116:14Tableau by principle is any more.
116:24Now I'm not done yet.
116:27There is also this new feature I added here
116:31Now this might look to you like just a regular KPI, but thanks Louis for the explanation.
116:37This is actually a new Viz extension built by our Tableau Visionaries.
116:42Merlin Balt and Dr.
116:44Klaus Put.
116:48They do all the damage in Rebedit, but they are for desktop.
117:01I'm so excited for this.
117:03Look at that.
117:05Yes!
117:06And from content activity, I can drill down further and I even see an embolded and bul embedded pulse metric for my blog post impressions.
117:16Looking at the numbers, it's getting lots of views.
117:18It's a very interesting way to put tablets.
117:24Discovery creation is a bit of inception to kind of map it all out.
117:31When we enable our data devs, they help us all unlock more capabilities with Tableau than ever before.
117:39Very strong.
117:39Liked it.
117:40If you want to meet and learn more about the data devs and even speak to them in person, please head over to Data Village.
117:48Back to you, Matthew.
117:51Wow.
117:52That was fantastic.
117:54Great job, Tony.
117:55Great job, Debs.
117:56Can we give another round of applause?
117:57Very cool.
118:00There is something here today for every single one of you
118:04Because seeing and understanding data is for everyone.
118:09We have so much more to share with you and we can't wait to get these capabilities into your hands.
118:15That's it for devs on the
118:18Alright, there was one more thing.
118:22Do you notice how fast these demos were?
118:25One more thing.
118:31on Apple Silicon.
118:32There you go.
118:33That's right.
118:34Coming this summer, it's Tableau on Apple Silicon.
118:37If you are using Tableau today on an Apple Silicon Mac, Tableau is up to 50%
118:44Isn't that amazing?
118:45I knew it was faster.
118:47We have so much more coming than we even have time to share with you today, so please
118:52Come hang out with us in the Data Village.
118:54Stop by the Devs on Stage booth.
118:56We would love to spend time and hear from you.
118:59Tableau Community.
119:01We are so grateful for you.
119:03We love your ideas, your suggestions, your feedback.
119:06Much of what you saw today came directly from inspiration.
119:10and conversations we're gonna be up late today to get this the future is bright out and we're building it together I wanted to be up together and I think my friend Celine said it best we got you data farm that's it for devs on stage back to you Ryan
119:24Okay, all right.
119:26Tablet for the app once we wanna round.
119:28I think I need tablet password channel.
119:30Of course, we went through a lot today, and there is actually just maybe one more thing.
119:35They've gone through so much things.
119:36So who likes San Diego?
119:40All right.
119:40Well, I'm excited to announce that next year we're gonna be here again.
119:46All right.
119:47So Tableau Conference 2025.
119:50It's weird to say 2025.
119:51Tableau Conference 2025 will be here next year.
119:55We will get you some dates soon, likely this summer.
119:58And so thank you again for being here.
120:00I want to do my very last slide, and then I know you all want to head out to the sessions.
120:04Ironviz, 4 o'clock
120:06True to the core tomorrow, true to the Tableau core, come give us all your feedback.
120:10You can ask Southern all the hard questions.
120:12I'll be there too.
120:13Um our day to night out tonight, and then please
120:16Take the survey and give us some feedback.
120:18We really do value it.
120:20Thank you so much and have a great rest of Tableau Conference.
120:24That was a strong keynote.
120:27Thanks for joining us.
120:29We'd love your feedback on today's keynote.
120:31Wow.
120:31Use this QR code to complete a short That was pretty sensational.
120:38Um so much to unpack
120:43The next generation of Tableau, Tableau Public, Local Rights, Joining Data Sources, so many things, so many things to unpack.
120:53I
120:55I think the biggest takeaway for me is that Tableau have clearly not just been l resting on their laurels, if that makes sense.
121:04And of course we know that's the case, right?
121:05Like you don't you don't make it 20 years in the game without
121:08um always constantly pushing yourself.
121:10I'm really keen to see where the next generation sort of narrative goes.
121:15I think the four problems they w they set out to solve were bang on.
121:18Those are the things that we've all been complaining about a lot.
121:22I made a video now two years ago about sort of how disparate Tableau is and I came up with a much crappier solution for this.
121:29I was like, yeah, just
121:30Break it all apart and put it together again like glue.
121:33No, this what they showed today was a much, much more cohesive way of doing that.
121:37And I think it
121:38It really hit hard.
121:39Like I I liked it.
121:39I really liked where they were going.
121:41So um it's really good to see that happening.
121:43And they're still delivering on what people are asking for.
121:46So uh being able to join published data sources.
121:49being able to do a whole bunch of things with um the kind of core platform cloud having the cloud sort of management capability so you can have multiple sites now which means server really loses that capability as an edge
122:02Um and then on top of that, all these sort of small wins, small quick wins, things that people have been asking for that are are real sort of champions in certain industries, super, super, super good.
122:13So um so much there.
122:15Um it's interesting they're gonna announce the next generation of Tableau at Dreamforce, which means if they're asking for feedback
122:21All we're really doing is tweaking things, but I think there's something very subtle about this.
122:26They want to build that experience into Salesforce.
122:29And I think there's a bit of a subtle sort of finesse there
122:33Why announce it at Dreamforce?
122:35Why not announce it at Tableau Conference?
122:37Then take it to Dreamforce, right?
122:39And that's what I think is interesting.
122:41So
122:41That to me m very much places it as the centerpin of Salesforce and Dreamforce.
122:47So I think they're really going to push hard with Tableau being
122:50you know, right at the forefront of the Salesforce platform.
122:53So I think that's really, really, really good to see.
122:55And I maybe that sort of explained the investment and what you know what they saw in Tableau and where they wanted to take it.
123:00So really really big vision there.
123:02I love it.
123:03Um
123:04Yeah, um I'm keen to see what you think.
123:06Um just gonna look at the comments here.
123:09Um will pulse be in Tableau Desktop slash Mac?
123:14Um so Tableau Pulse is not a desktop or Mac capability.
123:17Tableau Pulse is a
123:19cloud capability.
123:20In fact, let me um we can we can do we can do a little bit of um uh feature stuff here so um hey we're gonna drop into uh drop into a little bit of a
123:30uh uh a demo, right?
123:32So let me um let me log in.
123:36Uh let's log in to my Tableau Cloud instance here.
123:41Okay.
123:44And if we log in, here we go.
123:47We're in Tableau Cloud.
123:50We go to my pulse instance over here.
123:53I'm just going to explain why Tableau Pulse won't be on desktop or cloud.
123:58Tableau Pulse is very much the sort of web experience.
124:02And so you here you can see sort of four default metrics that I've got that I use for demos.
124:06The reason this won't make it to desktop is it's really no reason for it to be in desktop.
124:10The only thing you'll want to do in desktop is to bring these into your desktop experience.
124:15So what Tableau showed today is that you can bring these
124:18sort of metrics into your dashboard, but you're not going to get like a view to look at Tableau Pulse metrics in desktop because Tableau Desktop has never been about viewing what's on Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server.
124:30The other thing is that Tableau uh Pulse is only for Tableau Cloud.
124:34So it doesn't make sense for desktop because if you don't have Tableau Cloud, then you're not going to really be able to sort of engage in that experience either.
124:41So uh again
124:43It it's a little bit of a different placement of the product, but maybe that that sort of helps explain uh the confusion there.
124:49Um
124:50Uh Sean, um, tip for the cap, they finally started to listen to their customers.
124:56Yeah.
124:56You know what?
124:57I'll take that.
124:58Absolutely.
124:59There's been so many things for years that people have been asking for.
125:03That, you know, the the
125:05Joining um published data sources.
125:07That's been on the list since almost year three, right?
125:10Uh of Tableau and that feature coming out and now it's actually being delivered on.
125:14So I think it's really, really good to see that.
125:16And they're doing it in lots of different places.
125:17They're not just doing it like you know
125:19you know, in the obvious places, the easy wins, they're really doing some of the knockout sort of capabilities.
125:24The really hard stuff in my opinion.
125:25They're doing it well.
125:27Um, you know, they're doing um
125:29Multi-fact analysis as well in the dates in the data connection window, super, super valuable.
125:34Um that that was a lot, Apex man.
125:37I don't know where to start.
125:38Like
125:39I don't know what I'm gonna do.
125:40I I genuinely do not know what I'm gonna do with the with the keynote roundup.
125:46How do you summarize two hours and fifteen minutes?
125:48I guess you have to sort of really sort of blitz through it, and I think that's what I'm gonna have to do.
125:52um maybe do like a super edit and it's gonna take me some time.
125:55So I'm gonna have to get to that very, very quickly and um do that.
125:59What I might do is um
126:02come back on for um ironviz, but I might be editing whilst we watch Iron Viz.
126:08So maybe that's what I'll do.
126:09I'll sort of come back online for Iron Viz potentially, but if not, um I won't do anything else.
126:14I won't put anything back up.
126:15It's also quite late in the
126:16UK.
126:17It's um eight o'clock already, um so ironvis will be quite late, 11 pm and I've got work tomorrow.
126:22I've still gotta get on with the usual day, so um I might not
126:26stick around for that, but we'll try and put something out.
126:29Um yeah, thank you so much everyone.
126:31It's been fantastic.
126:32Uh thank you all for being uh tuned in.
126:36Uh many of you come back again.
126:38Uh we had
126:39I think the peak concurrency, let's see what the analytics say, at least on YouTube, what I can see is the peak concurrency was around 50.
126:45So around 50 at the very top.
126:48Um 300, 400 people have watched on YouTube and uh over on
126:53Over on LinkedIn quite a few people um uh uh were there.
126:58So yeah, really good.
127:00So um I'm gonna call it a day there.
127:03I'm gonna bring it to a bring it to a close.
127:05Um I hope the
127:06Um, I might need to do a quick summary, then a series of deeper dive videos.
127:11Uh that is exactly what I have to do
127:15I think I'm gonna have to break it down.
127:17I did that last year just because I I thought, you know what, let's do this properly.
127:21Didn't realize I was sort of putting in the practice.
127:23So I think I'll do summary, call out, I'll do deeper videos and then for the next seven days just
127:28start breaking them down.
127:29I think I have to start with what's new.
127:32There's a there's a bunch of stuff in the Tableau Betra as well.
127:34Like that's been launched weirdly right now.
127:37So there's just so much.
127:38I think I could
127:39definitely be making videos about features for the next week or so um and sort of burn out very quickly.
127:44So I think the most important thing to do is to pace myself a little bit.
127:47I need I need to kind of spread it out, make sure that it's um
127:50It's uh manageable.
127:51One of the toughest things is just editing um uh this stuff.
127:55It's always it's one thing just sitting here and hitting record.
127:58It's a completely another thing now.
128:00to grab this two hour edit and sort of make something of it.
128:03It it takes just as long as the two hours.
128:05So what I need to do is probably try and go see if I can get the recording of my own live stream.
128:11to then be able to do the summary, play it back at double speed.
128:14So it'll only take an hour, quickly make notes, then spend another hour recording the video, then spend another two hours editing it.
128:21So that's
128:21It's basically midnight at this rate, so anyway.
128:24Thank you so much.
128:25We're gonna end the stream there.
128:26Thank you for tuning in and I will catch you um in the next one.
128:30I'm gonna sort of kill the stream, but I'll be around in the chat
128:32um to catch some of your notes.
128:34Thanks, and we'll catch you catch you soon.
