0:00Hey, it's Tim here. And in this video, I'm
0:02going to be taking you through a new
0:03feature in Tableau
0:042020.2 where Tableau have made it much
0:07easier to navigate data sources hosted in
0:10Tableau Server,
0:11or when you're using WebEdit, the data
0:13sources that are available there. Okay, so
0:15let's have a
0:16look and see how that feature works. Well,
0:18the first thing we need to do is to connect
0:20to a
0:21Tableau Server. Okay. And so we're going to
0:23search for data here at the top, you can
0:25see it's this
0:25very top option. If I just zoom in again
0:27here to Tableau Server, you'll see it's
0:29that particular
0:30option there. And so now let's have a click
0:32on that. And you'll see you'll get this
0:34interface.
0:35Now, I don't have many data sources on my
0:38test environment. But what you'll notice is
0:41you have
0:41an improved filtering capability just here
0:44on the right hand side. So I can even
0:46filter for certified
0:47or uncertified data sources, connection
0:50types based on databases, and a few other
0:53sort of
0:53really cool options that makes it much
0:55easier if say you're in an organization
0:57with hundreds of
0:58published data sources, you also get the
1:00ability to preview how many times it's been
1:02used. But
1:03essentially, this interface works really,
1:05really well to speed up the ability to find
1:08those data
1:08sources, then connect to them directly
1:10inside of Tableau. Now, the thing to also
1:13bear in mind is
1:13this is available through WebEdit. I'm just
1:15going to open up my browser here so you can
1:17see what I
1:18mean. So if I just open up the correct
1:20window this time around, let's have a look
1:23at this. Yeah,
1:24we open up Tableau Online. And you can see
1:26here that I've got a basically a standard
1:28landing page
1:29for most Tableau Online or Tableau Service
1:32with my favorites and my recent below. If I
1:34go to new
1:35here on the right hand side, okay, and I
1:38create a new workbook, I actually hop
1:40straight into the
1:42WebEdit interface. And because I haven't
1:44connected to anything, I need to now
1:46connect to a data
1:47source. And so Tableau will automatically
1:49open the same window we've just seen in
1:51Tableau Desktop,
1:52but here in WebEdit. And again, you get the
1:55same capabilities to filter by data types
1:58or by
1:58certified data sources in this specific
2:00case, or you can obviously just use search.
2:02And this will
2:03return sort of search results back to you
2:06as before. So the same feature here on Web
2:09Edit,
2:09and the same feature here on Tableau
2:11Desktop, they're virtually identical. Okay,
2:13that's pretty
2:14much it in a nutshell. That's the quality
2:16of life improvement in most cases. Okay, so
2:18thanks for
2:18watching this video. If you like what you

2:22Otherwise,
2:22I'll catch you in the next video.
