0:00Hello and welcome to What So What Now What Ravi, welcome back.
0:04Hello, happy new year Tim.
0:05How how's your festive break been?
0:07It's been very good, very good.
0:08A much needed break, although it never feels like a break.
0:11It goes too fast.
0:12It does.
0:12It does
0:14So we're back.
0:15Um recording again.
0:17So what we're doing this year is changing the format slightly.
0:20So we're gonna continue with
0:22the the structure, so the what, the so what, the now what.
0:25Um but we're gonna um change it up a bit.
0:28So we're gonna do um a concept we're calling bits and bytes.
0:31Uh so Tim what what are we gonna do with this?
0:33What what's a bit and what's a byte
0:35Okay, so we just wanted an opportunity to separate out the content that we create and just refocus us on the specific things we cover.
0:44And so bits are essentially going to be about technologies.
0:48They're going to be allowing us to focus on particular technologies and and why they matter and the innovation they bring.
0:54And bytes will be more broad, sort of reaching topics, sort of more abstract.
0:59topics, maybe things like data literacy or um, you know, concepts that require us to go into a more discussive format.
1:06Yeah, and and those are the ones where we can be a bit more open and sort of
1:09We'd we we can bring a bit more of a um opinionated feel into it, you know, more of the argumentative things we had last year.
1:15But um I think bits bits will bring
1:18A bit more knowledge and I think is what for us at least it's also a really good opportunity to dig a bit deeper into some concepts we've almost heard about but never really had the opportunity to di dive a bit deeper into
1:29Yeah, yeah.
1:30I mean I'm always I'm always uh guilty of of of of essentially, you know, using technology and never really paying attention into you know into why or how it's doing what it's doing.
1:43People get excited and um you you see the awesome things they produce, but you don't often get a chance to really dig in deep and understand well, why is this different?
1:53You know, why is this
1:54Why is this meaningfully um you know a change in in the way that things have been?
1:59And so we just want to take an opportunity to dig into that more.
2:02Yeah, exactly.
2:02And I'm I'm I'm I'm a I'm a hundred percent generalist.
2:05Like I think anyone that knows me like finds out that I I have a uh to quote Adventure Time that the Cartoon Network show.
2:12I've a um
2:14average knowledge of many things or something like that.
2:17Um and it's it's basically I I I'll understand what it is and w what it the the basic content is, but I never really end up
2:24digging deeper into the why and like why is it this innovative in the wider, broader space of technology and the world and everything that we do day to day, like what will it change?
2:33What is the the so what as it were?
2:36Exactly.
2:37The main thing to take away from this is think of this as almost season two of the podcast.
2:42Uh we're going to be changing the format.
2:43Um we're going to be coming out twice a month, so every two weeks.
2:48The first episode is actually going to be on the 14th of Jan, and we're going to be talking about Hyper, the next gen database by Tableau.
2:58Yeah, and it it it's one that came with greater plom, so it's gonna be fun to dig into and then discuss it a bit further.
3:04So yeah, look out for that.
