How to use your Local Coordinate system in Tableau Desktop 2019.3

0:00A great new feature in 2019.3 is the

0:05ability to use local coordinate systems in

0:08Tableau.

0:09In this data set, I have a latitude and

0:11longitude. However, these have been

0:13generated from the

0:13postcode. My data source actually has

0:17information regarding locations for East

0:19ings and Northings.

0:20That's the system used in the UK. If I open

0:23up the spatial object that I've already

0:25created,

0:25you'll see that I'm using the makepoint

0:27function. However, I'm using Eastings and

0:29Northings.

0:30And if I hit OK, and I try and map this out

0:32, you'll see that it's not able to render

0:35the

0:35map. What I need to do is add an additional

0:38parameter to this function. The makepoint

0:41function has been upgraded. So I can now

0:43enter the coordinate system that I'm using

0:46as a

0:46code. I just need to enter comma, and then

0:50I need to find the coordinate system. To do

0:52this, head over to this website. And you

0:54can see I've already typed the United

0:57Kingdom.

0:57When I hit search, and I pull up the right

1:00coordinate system, I'm able to extract the

1:02code from the top header. If I go back into

1:06Tableau, enter this code, hit apply, and

1:11you'll

1:12see Tableau is now able to render the map.
