0:00In 2019, too, we see the addition of some
0:04really useful enhancements to how dash
0:08boards
0:08work with containers. To show you this, I
0:10've opened up the sample workbook in Tableau
0:14.
0:14Now typically what you'd have to do if you
0:16wanted a section of this dashboard to
0:19appear
0:19and disappear, you'd need to really
0:21understand how layout containers work
0:23really, really
0:24well. And you'd have to set up sort of
0:26collapsing containers. But even collapsing
0:29containers
0:30still leave a very small gap about two or
0:32three pixel gap. And so it's not quite as
0:35good as a container that can appear and
0:38disappear completely. So to show you how to
0:41do this,
0:41I'm going to make this side menu here on
0:44the right hand side into a show and hide
0:47side
0:47menu. To do this, you have to make the
0:50container that contains the objects, the
0:53filter and
0:53the legend, a floating container. So let's
0:56go ahead and do that. Now that we've done
0:58that, we get this option on the right hand
1:01side caret to add a show and hide button.
1:04Let me just zoom in on that so you can see
1:07that more clearly. And when we click on
1:09that
1:10option, you'll see we get this little cross
1:12. Now initially, if you just click on that
1:14without
1:15doing anything on your keyboard, then
1:17nothing will happen. That's because you're
1:19not in
1:19a preview mode. However, if you hold Option
1:21or Alt, and click on it, then you actually
1:24get the simulation of the click. So now you
1:26can see what that's doing. And the idea is
1:29that if you're in a, you know, full on use
1:31of the dashboard, you can actually use this
1:34to show and hide items that you might want
1:37to change. And you know, the preferences
1:40you
1:41choose inside of the filters remain when
1:43the option is hidden away. So it's a really
1:45nice
1:46way of getting space back on the dashboard
1:48and creating much, much more efficient use
1:50of space. Now, just before I finish this
1:53video, I'd like to really call out some
1:55absolutely
1:55great examples in the community. So Mark
1:58Reed, he's a consultant, and he's got some
2:01really,
2:02really good sample workbooks on his profile
2:05, but one in particular on 2019.2, he's got
2:08some really good examples of how you can
2:09use this. So if I click on this play button
2:11, you'll
2:12see that he's actually hidden an entire
2:14chart. And he's got some really sort of
2:16nice interactivity
2:17here where he's actually changing the chart
2:20type. As you click through these options.
2:22He's also got this really nice example of
2:24an overlay sheet. Now this is really useful
2:26when you want to show people how a
2:27dashboard works. When I click on the
2:29information icon,
2:30it actually shows an overlay on top of the
2:32dashboard, which shows you how everything
2:35works. When you click on it again, it
2:37disappears. And then you get your menu here
2:40on the right
2:40hand side exactly the same way as I did in
2:43the Tableau workbook. So I definitely
2:45encourage
2:45you to look at content out in the community
2:47whenever new versions of Tableau come out,
2:50you get absolutely stunning examples like
2:52this one of how to use the new features. If
