How to change language in all Tableau Products - New in Tableau 2022.2
French Canadian is new in 2022.2 - here's how to switch language across Desktop, Server, Cloud and Prep.
- In Tableau Desktop and Prep, change the language via Help > Choose Language, but note the product closes and reopens, so do it without an open workbook
- In Tableau Server and Cloud, the setting lives under your profile icon > My Account Settings > Settings tab, then scroll to Language and Region
- Server and Cloud let you set language and locale separately, so you can keep one language while applying locale-specific number formatting and a chosen time zone
- French Canadian is a newly added product language in Tableau 2022.2
Tim shows where to change the product language in each Tableau product, prompted by French Canadian being added as a new language in 2022.2.
Applies across Tableau Desktop, Prep, Server and Cloud, each of which stores the language setting in a different place.
- Change language in Desktop 0:06
Go to Help > Choose Language and pick from the list of product languages. Do this without an open workbook, because selecting a language closes Tableau and reopens it fully loaded in that language.
- Find the setting in Server and Cloud 0:54
The setting is less obvious here: click your profile icon top right, go to My Account Settings, then make sure you're on the Settings tab specifically before scrolling down to the Language and Region section.
- Separate language from locale 1:20
In Server and Cloud you can set language and locale independently, so you could keep the interface in one language while using locale-specific number formatting, plus set your time zone in the same section.
- Change language in Prep 1:49
Prep works the same way as Desktop: Help > Choose Language, then the product closes and reopens with the new language set as default. Again, only do this when nothing else is open in the product.
- Changing language in Desktop or Prep closes and reopens the whole product, so save your work first and do it when nothing's open.
- In Server/Cloud the language control sits under the Settings tab within My Account Settings, which can be easy to miss among the other tabs.
Reach for this whenever you or a colleague need the Tableau interface in a different language or region-specific formatting, such as after French Canadian became available in 2022.2.
How this Rollup was made provenance & method
A Rollup is drafted by AI from the video's transcript, then reviewed and edited by Tim. Everything used to produce this one is listed below — the model, the exact prompt, and the source video — so the process is transparent and reproducible.
- Transcription
- On-device — NVIDIA Parakeet v3 for recent videos, OpenAI Whisper large-v3 for earlier ones. The transcript never leaves the machine or gets published.
- Drafting
- Claude Sonnet 5 in the cloud, from that transcript.
- Prompt
- The exact Rollup prompt (v2) — the full system prompt, unedited.
