0:00Hey, it's Tim here. In today's video, I'm
0:01going to show you very quickly how to
0:02manage product keys
0:04in Tableau Desktop. Now, the key system has
0:07sort of been interesting because it's
0:09changed because
0:10of all the different changes to the
0:12licensing that Tableau have sort of been
0:13doing behind the scenes.
0:15But nevertheless, if you're in Tableau
0:17Desktop, there is actually a way you can go
0:18and look at
0:19your product key and essentially manage it
0:21and remove it, deactivate it or activate it
0:24as you
0:24see fit. This is typically done when let's
0:26say you are getting rid of your laptop, you
0:29need to put
0:29Tableau in a new machine, or maybe you're
0:31leaving an organization and license keys
0:33are very tight.
0:34So you need to make sure you circulate the
0:35keys around, you might have your own key
0:37administered
0:38through something like Tableau Server or
0:39Tableau Online that gets pulled down from
0:41those environments
0:42onto your machine. So this is again,
0:44another way of just checking, hey, which
0:46license have you
0:46actually got in case that sort of comes up.
0:49So let's get stuck in here. If you go to
0:51the help
0:51view, I haven't opened anything, I've just
0:53opened Tableau, no workbook is open, you go
0:56down here to
0:56manage product keys, it opens up this very
0:59simple interface. And you can see here that
1:01you have the
1:02product key. And now in mine, it just says
1:05creator Tableau Desktop, license keys, and
1:07so on and so
1:08forth. Now when you click refresh, what
1:11that does is essentially pings the Tableau
1:14servers, and it
1:14synchronizes the keys and basically make
1:16sure everything's working. In this
1:18particular case,
1:19it didn't work because I've actually got
1:20this laptop set up in a slightly weird way.
1:23So that
1:23particular call out to the internet won't
1:25sort of work in this very particular
1:27instance, because I'm
1:28recording. But nonetheless, if you go to
1:31activate, you actually get this pop up that
1:34you normally get
1:35when you haven't activated the key, you can
1:37then go through this, again, you can
1:39activate using a
1:40key, or you can activate by signing into a
1:42Tableau server, as I mentioned before. And
1:45so this is just
1:46a really sort of a simple video just to
1:48show you where that option is, and how to
1:49go ahead and do
1:50that. I'm going to hit cancel here. And you
1:52can see that I'm licensed and no need to
1:54sort of do
1:55anything there. I'm just going to hit close
