Fiscal dates in Tableau Prep Builder

A really nice quality of life improvement: fiscal dates in Tableau Prep without any date offsetting.

  • Always duplicate your order date field before creating a fiscal date, otherwise you lose the original date
  • The custom financial year option lives under the three dots, Convert Dates, at the bottom of the menu
  • You can create either a fiscal month or fiscal year number, and define the month your fiscal year begins
  • Tableau Online doesn't yet support these new features on launch, so scheduling a flow with them triggers a warning
  • You can build multiple fiscal year columns for different organisations and let users switch between them in Tableau Desktop

Tableau release notes:For many of our customers, a fiscal year does not correspond to a calendar year (e.g., beginning in January). For instance, Salesforce, our parent company, begins its fiscal year in February, and data processing needs to be aware of this business rule. To better leverage Prep’s date field and aggregation features, Prep users can now configure date fields to support custom arbitrary months for the start of a fiscal year.Check out the full release blog here: https://www.tableau.com/about/blog/2020/9/new-tableau-prep-group-steps-custom-fiscal-dates-and-more -------Join my Discord Server. https://discord.gg/shBuxXr it’s a little sparse at the moment but hang in there.
