0:04Okay, so to talk about content strategy and

0:08content mix,

0:08the best way to do this is to show you a

0:11graphic that I got on my phone.

0:12Actually, coincidentally today that I

0:14decided that,

0:15this is actually a really good graphic to

0:17show you.

0:18So let's do this.

0:19So I'm going to open three images.

0:22I'm going to put them on screen. Oh, there

0:24's my CSV.

0:25Let's download that to my machine.

0:28I'm going to sort of minimize this.

0:32What they are, are screenshots from my

0:37phone,

0:38actually today at two o'clock roughly.

0:41And this is basically YouTube sends you

0:43these,

0:43what do I call these? It sends you kind of

0:48alerts,

0:48then it tells you how your channel

0:50performed that week.

0:51And this was actually a hint that it

0:54dropped on my channel.

0:55So I'll actually show you the video I took

0:57of the screen recording.

0:58And can I get it to loop?

1:10hit play a few times.

1:11So this is basically the graphic.

1:13So basically says, look, this is your

1:16content

1:16we consider as part of a hub.

1:18So this keeps many of you happy in coming

1:21back,

1:21the new features videos.

1:23And then if it gets the next type of video,

1:26help like content.

1:27So Tableau Desktop Crash Course, that's a

1:29very good group of content.

1:31And another one here could be seen as a

1:34scatterplot video,

1:35which I'll show you.

1:36And then the next one after that is what I

1:38call the hero videos.

1:40I call these whales, but YouTube calls

1:42these hero videos,

1:43popular topics with big appeal.

1:45So these ones are the ones that really

1:47reach a big audience,

1:48really go out there and draw people into

1:50your channel.

1:51So those are the three general sort of

1:53frameworks for videos.

1:54I have traditionally only been making hub

1:58videos and help videos.

2:00This year, I didn't really make any hero

2:03videos at all.

2:05They just take too much time.

2:06As I explained, I didn't have the time.

2:08So super, super, super difficult to make.

2:12But nonetheless, it's kind of interesting

2:16because what YouTube wants you to do is to

2:18balance these,

2:20kind of schedule them.

2:21So it's basically saying, hey, help content

2:24is really working for you.

2:25Go and focus on hub and hero basically.

2:29So how can you complement these types of

2:31videos with the other two types?

2:33So I'm known for help content.

2:35And it's basically saying, hey, go check

2:37out these other videos.

2:38And so here's some strategies.

2:40And so that's actually very much how I look

2:42at it.

2:42Now, content on my side is done in Notion.

2:46I can't really show you that because there

2:47's some confidential stuff

2:49in there about stuff I can't share.

2:51And I haven't really checked with various

2:52people

2:53to see if I can actually share stuff with

2:55them.

2:55So I won't share that in there.

2:57But none to say I have about like 300

3:00videos like penciled in.

3:03That's no joke.

3:04300 videos as a list in Notion.

3:06It's a table with basically a title.

3:09Most people start with a title, then they

3:11go to the thumbnail.

3:12Then they actually make the video.

3:13I tend to start with a title, I make the

3:16video,

3:17then I decide a thumbnail essentially after

3:19making the video.

3:20It's a bit of a backwards process compared

3:21to other YouTubers,

3:22but that's just the way it is.

3:24And the big thing for next year

3:29is ideally just slowing down on the

3:32quantity

3:33and really ramping up the quality.

3:35So if I was to sort of put myself on a

3:39slider,

3:39I am going to be sort of making the usual,

3:42hey, this is what's new in tablet videos.

3:44But on top of that, I also want to start

3:46making the 30-minute,

3:4840-minute, one-hour long crash courses

3:51that I did really, really well at the

3:52beginning of this year.

3:53So beginning of '24, we'll do a tablet prep

3:57crash course.

3:58We'll do a tablet cloud and server crash

4:01course.

4:02And then we'll make our way through the

4:03smaller parts of the product.

4:05So we'll do something like a calculations

4:07crash course.

4:08We'll do something like a charting crash

4:11course.

4:11And we'll try and build out these, let's

4:15say, more instructive videos.

4:18And the reason is because I can really plan

4:21my way around those.

4:22And the work around that can happen

4:25irrespective

4:26of what hurdles sort of come my way,

4:29because all I need to do is find a four-

4:31hour window

4:32to record that in one sitting.

4:34And then the editing can happen

4:35irrespective

4:36of whether I'm ill or whatever's happening.

4:38And so I want to get into a cadence

4:40where I've maybe recorded three or four of

4:42these ahead of time.

4:43Maybe I spend a weekend recording three of

4:45them.

4:45Then I edit them over the course of two

4:47months,

4:47and I release them on a more casual cadence

4:50,

4:50interspersed with some of these more

4:52frequent

4:53"Here's what's new" tablet videos.

4:54So that's essentially my game plan for the

4:56year.

4:57I think that's going to work pretty well.

4:59I want to try and collaborate with more

5:00people.

5:01I want to do more stuff like this.

5:02I think this kind of content is really fun.

5:04Take up sections of the videos and just put

5:06them out

5:06and see how that works.

5:08But nonetheless, it's just really tough to

5:12kind of get this.

5:13Bearing in mind, I still work full-time.

5:15So I'm still a father of two.

5:17And there's so much going on in life.

5:20This is, again, something I only do between

5:227 p.m.

5:23and 9 p.m. when I have the time.

5:26So I kind of have to live within those

5:27parameters as much as I can.
