Better search experience in Tableau Server & Tableau Online: New in Tableau 2022.1

Tableau 2022.1 quietly overhauled server and online search, and it's one of those features everyone gets for free.

Part ofWhat's new in Tableau 2022.1
  • The new search adds a filter pane so you can narrow results by content type, owner and last modified date
  • Results are grouped by content type - views, workbooks, data sources, flows, tables, databases and files
  • Search uses token matching plus fuzzy matching, so misspelled names or terms still return the closest match
  • Filtering to a single content type unlocks sorting by relevance or popularity on the right-hand side
  • Search is for finding specific content while explore is for browsing, and progressive (lazy) loading speeds up returning initial results

Tableau release notes. Find content that matters faster. We reimagined the Tableau search from the ground up to ensure the most useful content bubbles to the top when you search in Tableau. Results are ranked based on signals like text relevance, popularity, and recency to ensure everyone in your organization can find the data they need to make faster, smarter data-driven decisions.
