See related metrics: New inTableau 2021.1
You can now easily see all metrics related to a visualisation.
- The metrics pane now automatically shows all metrics already created from a given visualisation
- To create a metric, select a metric on the left, click create, and Tableau builds a value from the time series trend in the view
- Each metric creation triggers a 'toast' notification confirming success
- Any site role can now see connected metrics in this view, where previously only creators and explorers could access metrics
0:00Hey it's Tim here, in today's video I'm
0:01showing you a new feature in 2020.1 which
0:04shows you related
0:05metrics for visualization. Okay let me show
0:07you how that works. Again the first thing
0:09we're going
0:09to do is just go to this first
0:10visualization here, it's already set up for
0:13this example,
0:13and we're going to go to this forecast tab
0:15here on the bottom. Okay once this loads up
0:18you can see
0:19that this is our visualization and what you
0:21need to be able to see is this option here
0:23that says
0:24metrics. If I just grab my annotation here
0:26you can see there's this option for metrics
0:28and when
0:28you click on that you actually get the
0:30metrics pane appear on the right hand side
0:32and the new
0:33feature in 2020.1 is that it now
0:36automatically shows you metrics that have
0:38already been created
0:39for from this visualization. Okay so let's
0:42create a couple more one for each one for
0:44corporate and
0:44one for home office then you'll see them
0:46appear here on the list on the right hand
0:48side. We're
0:48actually also in the right place to create
0:50one so what I need to do is to click on a
0:51metric here on
0:52the left hand side and then once I've done
0:54that click create and what it will do is it
0:56'll look at
0:56that metric and it will look at the sort of
0:58time series information that's available
1:00here and it
1:01will create a value so 46,970 here is
1:04actually this number here at the very end
1:07so 46,975
1:08is basically just watching this line over
1:10time and this line here in the
1:12visualization
1:13matches essentially this trend over here. I
1:15can give it a name but I'm just going to
1:16leave it as
1:17is and then the create button is just
1:19behind my face here so if I just hit create
1:22you'll see that
1:23this metric gets created and I'll leave my
1:24face here in the middle of the screen
1:26whilst we create
1:27a couple more metrics so let's go ahead
1:29back to metrics click on this bottom line
1:32here now you'll
1:32see we have to go ahead create once more
1:35create another one hit create and every
1:37time you create
1:38one you get this sort of notification here
1:40on the top of the screen this is called a
1:42toast in
1:42web design and it essentially tells you
1:44that this has been successful and
1:46everything's been created
1:47and obviously once you're done you can now
1:49can I move myself back to where I normally
1:51am
1:52and I can just close these if I want to now
1:54just disregard them as notifications
1:56essentially
1:57now if we click metrics you'll see now we
1:59've got three things that are related to
2:01this
2:02so this is nice because if you're in a
2:03visualization that's used by a lot of
2:05people
2:06and people are starting to create metrics
2:07from them then you can obviously go in here
2:09and start
2:09to see how that works it's a really really
2:11nice quality of life improvement to have in
2:14the product
2:14now there is one small detail worth
2:16covering up here and that is to do with the
2:18license type now
2:19previously only users that were creators
2:21and explorers who can publish actually had
2:23the
2:23ability to see metrics at all but in this
2:25particular view anyone who has any site
2:28role
2:28can actually see these metrics so it's a
2:30small sort of detail let me just go ahead
2:32to the tablet
2:33documentation and show you where it says
2:35this if you go on here to see where it says
2:36see connected
2:37metrics in the view you'll see here that it
2:39says when you open metrics pane you will
2:40see the metrics
2:41blah blah blah users with any site role can
2:44see connected metrics that's a really nice
2:46thing which
2:47means viewers now have the ability to get a
2:49look into some of the benefits that
2:51previously only
2:52creators and explorers had access to okay
2:54so that's pretty much it for this feature
2:56there's
2:56not much more to it um if you've enjoyed
2:58this video thanks for watching and i'll
3:00catch you in
3:01the next one be sure to check out the
3:02playlist on 2020.1 on my channel along with
