New Tableau certification accounts in Pearson Vue | Check this before you book your exam!
There's something that caught me off guard with the new Tableau certification account, and if you've ever sat an exam you'll want to check this before you book.
- Tableau certification now uses a single Tableau account, so the personal email you used for past exams may not match your existing work-email Tableau login
- You can now create a Tableau account under a personal email, which wasn't previously allowed, and you need this to access your title history
- Your full exam record, including expired and retired titles, is preserved in the new account and is a handy place to track what needs renewing
- Badges still flow through Acclaim/Credly as long as you keep the same email across exams, even though direct badge linking isn't live yet
- New exams are shorter and available online, replacing the old seven-hour in-person certified professional exam
0:00Hey, it's Tim here. In today's video I'm
0:01going to be covering the new Tableau
0:03certification
0:04account that's just launched. There's
0:06actually something that caught me off guard
0:07here. If
0:08you've ever done a Tableau certification
0:09exam, you're going to want to stick around
0:11to hear
0:12what I discovered about this new account.
0:14Let's get stuck in. Okay, so I'm here in
0:16the
0:16Pearson Vue website. Now, I never really
0:19know how to go directly to this, so what I
0:21've got
0:21into the habit of doing is just googling
0:23Tableau Pearson Vue and it just comes up as
0:25the top
0:26link. Google is good as ever and it takes
0:28you straight to this page, so you get there
0:31and you're pretty much ready to go. Now,
0:33when you log in there's two notifications.
0:34Obviously,
0:35COVID is still an ongoing issue, so if you
0:37're trying to sit an in-person exam with
0:39Pearson
0:40Vue, they've got this standard notice
0:41across the top. But they've got this notice
0:43here
0:44from Tableau which is about the new
0:45certification account. Now, this is
0:48interesting because
0:50for a while now it's sort of been this sort
0:52of weird thing that in Tableau you've had
0:53to have an account for everything across
0:55different systems. So, a while back we used
0:57to have
0:58this other exam provider that didn't use
1:00any sort of Tableau login. You had to have
1:02your
1:02own credentials there and for that account,
1:05what I did when I sat my first Tableau exam
1:08now eight years ago is I used my personal
1:11email. And so, when I sat lots of the exams
1:14that I've done videos on last year, I also
1:16used my personal email when I signed up for
1:18Pearson Vue. However, when I then got to
1:21Pearson Vue and tried to basically log in,
1:23it asked
1:24me for my Tableau account. So, if I go here
1:26to log in, it's actually going to log me
1:27straight
1:28in because I'm already logged into my Table
1:30au account. I'll come and show you that in a
1:32second. It will log me straight in and the
1:34first time you log in, it will ask you if
1:36you can enter some information. Essentially
1:38, I'll put some video footage of this up on
1:40screen and you need to enter this before
1:43you can proceed. Once you've done that, you
1:44can
1:44obviously go through and I sort of panicked
1:46because the first thing I did was obviously
1:48to go look at my title history. And when I
1:50went there, I couldn't find anything. I
1:52couldn't
1:52find anything whatsoever and I was so
1:55confused because I assumed that when Table
1:57au had transported
1:58all of the titles from LES and everything
2:01from Pearson Vue up until January the 4th,
2:05I thought everything had been brought over.
2:08But, here's the kicker. Because of the
2:09Tableau
2:10account, I didn't have a Tableau account
2:12under my personal email which is what I'd
2:15been using
2:15this whole time for all of my certification
2:18accounts. So, what I had to do is go over
2:20to Tableau and actually create a Tableau
2:22account. Now, I already have one. I have
2:25one using
2:25a work email. So, this is what I've always
2:27used. I've always used that account for
2:29work
2:29email. So, on the Tableau website, I use my
2:31work email. On every other website, I just
2:34use my personal email. Things like
2:35certification, Tableau public and so on and
2:37so forth. But,
2:38it seems you now need to have an account
2:40that spans both. And so, what you then need
2:42to
2:43do is create your personal account. This
2:44was never possible before. I'd actually
2:46tried
2:46to change my Tableau account to a personal
2:48email. It was never allowed. It seems to be
2:51allowed now. And you can go ahead and
2:53create your own personal account here in
2:55Tableau.
2:56And once you've done that, you get
2:57something called a Tableau account. I think
2:59this is
2:59interesting. I think this hints towards a
3:01future where this account is going to do a
3:03lot more than just certifications and
3:05logging into the Tableau website. That's
3:07almost a
3:07fog on conclusion. But, I won't speculate.
3:09Once you've done that, once you've logged
3:11in, you go back to your titles and you
3:13create that Tableau account. Now, you log
3:16in with
3:16that Tableau account. When you actually go
3:18to log into this page, it throws up a Table
3:20au
3:20authentication window. And once you log in,
3:23I've filled in all the same information
3:25again.
3:26And now, I have my correct title status
3:29here. So, you can see all my past exams. It
3:32's really
3:32nice they brought all even the expired ones
3:34. Even the ones that have expired down here.
3:36These are all in here. It's kind of, it's
3:37an important record. So, look, you've sat
3:39them but they've expired. And actually, it
3:41's a really good place to come and see what
3:43you
3:43need to update and renew. So, as you can
3:46see, I've got my recent exams. In fact, I
3:49didn't
3:49know until I logged into this page that I
3:51actually passed my beta exam for the Table
3:54au
3:54certified data analyst exam. So, that's
3:57good. I passed all of that. And everything
3:59else
3:59is looking good. So, I've got my specialist
4:01exam again. I passed that last year. I did
4:02a video about that. I also did a video
4:04about the Tableau certified associate
4:06consultant
4:07exam. The next exam that's about to expire
4:10very soon is what I call the beast.
4:12Thankfully,
4:12this exam has been retired. You don't have
4:15to sit seven hour exam anymore for this
4:17certified
4:17professional exam. But it expires in
4:19literally just four days. So, in four days
4:22time, this
4:23will expire and I'll have to sit the new
4:25exam. The new exam hasn't been posted yet.
4:27So, I'm
4:28assuming that this is going to expire and
4:30the new one will become available very soon
4:33after. Otherwise, there'll be this weird
4:34moment of time where you can't really renew
4:36the exam.
4:37I'm not in a rush to renew it. That's a
4:39topic for another time. But nonetheless,
4:42all the
4:42others are there. My Tableau 10 and 9 exams
4:45, geez, and my Tableau 8 qualified associate
4:48exam is still here. This is before Tableau
4:51even used years as a number. So, 2014 is
4:55there
4:55as well. And I've actually, I think
4:57everything else has expired. So, that's
4:58easily the oldest
4:59exam that I've got here. So, what do I need
5:02to do with my exams? First of all, I think
5:04I definitely need to do my desktop
5:06certified associate. I did that in 2020
5:09during COVID.
5:10It expired on the 12th of January. So, CO
5:13VID has been around for two years. It's
5:15expired.
5:16So I need to do that. It's a pretty
5:18important one to do actually. And then
5:20after that, I'll
5:21probably go on to the Tableau certified
5:23associate exam. I'll obviously make videos
5:26on these.
5:26And then Tableau server qualified associate
5:29. I think this has been retired. So, server
5:31certified associate and Tableau server
5:34qualified associate. I have no idea what
5:37the difference
5:38is between these two exams. They say, it
5:40says I sat them on the same day. So, what I
5:42'm thinking
5:43is that these are the same thing. And
5:46potentially, what's going on here is that
5:50this is going
5:51to be the new name. So, this DSQDQ9SEA. It
5:54doesn't really make sense. I don't know why
5:57that's on there twice. The certified
5:59desktop professional, I need to sit that
6:01again. And
6:02desktop qualified associate, I also need to
6:04sit that again. That sort of goes without
6:06saying. So, yeah. Got lots of exams to
6:08renew this year. And yeah, I thought I'd
6:10just make
6:10a video about this because it caught me out
6:12and I spent a bit of time just trying to
6:15mess
6:15around. But anyway, the rest of the website
6:17is pretty straightforward. I don't think I
6:18need to sort of walk you through that other
6:21than they've got a nice dashboard here. You
6:23don't have the ability to link badges yet.
6:26If you use the service called Acclaim, let
6:28me just go and see if I can log into mine.
6:31So, let's go to Acclaim, digital
6:34credentials.
6:35And if I sign in, I'm wondering how it's
6:37going to sign me in. There we go. It's
6:39going to
6:39remember my credentials. You can see that
6:42all my Tableau credentials are still there.
6:44I've got 13 badges. So, I've got specialist
6:47, certified data analyst, certified
6:49associate.
6:50So, even though this website here, you can
6:53link these badges soon, my badge has
6:56already
6:57turned up under certified data analyst exam
6:59here. So, as long as you're using the same
7:01email across your exams, this should
7:03generally work. And again, you can see my
7:05expired exams
7:06here as well. So, I somehow seem to have
7:08some of these twice, but nonetheless, they
7:11're all
7:11there and yeah, I can sort of progress.
7:13These are the e-learning badges for the
7:15record if
7:15you're wondering where those are from. I
7:17sort of just did that as like a trial of
7:19the exams
7:19to see what it's like. That's pretty much
7:21it. Not much more to share than that. Yeah,
7:24certification seems to have had a revamp,
7:27new provider, new system. And to be honest,
7:29it makes it a much nicer experience. The
7:31website's a lot clearer. Scheduling exam is
7:34also a lot
7:34easier. You can take the exams online. That
7:37's a much, much sort of needed thing. And
7:39all
7:39the exams going forward don't require you
7:41to spend, at least in the worst case
7:43scenario,
7:44seven hours in a room. The desktop
7:46certified professional one used to be an in
7:48-person exam
7:48until they moved it online, which thank God
7:51that was done. So yeah, it's really good to
7:54see some options here and yeah, good to see
7:57things improving. And yeah, these are the
7:59exams that I've sat on Pearson VUE so far.
8:01So I've done three exams, certified
8:03associate
8:04consultant, certified data analyst, and
8:06certified desktop specialist. These never
8:08expire, thank
8:09God. So yeah, if something wants, get them
8:11forever. I'm sure the other ones will
8:13expire
8:13at some point, especially the associate
8:15exam. So yeah, those will be next. Thanks
8:17for watching.
8:17and I'll catch you on the next video.
